St. Vincent’s HealthCare Honored at
7th Annual “Hands of Hope” Event
Recognized for 11 Years of Ministry in Haiti
On March 5, 2011, the St. Boniface
Haiti Foundation held its 7th annual
“Hands of Hope” event to raise money
for the mission work of the foundation
in Fond des Blancs, a rural area in
Haiti. The foundation provides healthcare
services, educational programs and
community development to the community
of over 75,000 residents.
St. Vincent’s HealthCare was the recipient
of this year’s “Hands of Hope”
award. It was presented by Dr. Ron
Carzoli and accepted on behalf of St.
Vincent’s by Moody Chisholm, CEO.
For the past 11 years, St. Vincent’s has
partnered with the St. Boniface
Foundation to run the surgical
programs in Fond-des-Blancs. Each
year, ten general and gynecological
surgical teams perform more than 200
surgeries. The program was started in
2000 by Sandy Logue, who continues
to run the surgical program and in
whose honor the “Centre de Chirgurie”
was named this year at St. Boniface.
In presenting the award, Dr. Carzoli
thanked the numerous physicians,
nurses and support staff who have
helped make the program a success.

bed full-service hospital, providing care
to the previously severely underserved
rural population.
The St. Boniface mission expanded to
Jacksonville 15 years ago, when Jack
Logue, then St. Vincent’s COO began
working at St. Vincent’s Medical
Center. Today, Logue is the Chairman
of the Board for St. Boniface and leads
the Spirituality Center at St. Vincent’s.

The St. Boniface Haiti Foundation
was founded more than 25 years ago
in Boston, MA, by a Catholic parish
there. Starting with a one room clinic
in Haiti, the Foundation has expanded
