Spirit Card recipients are recognized in each Mediscoop<br />
issue and there are some associates whose names appear<br />
time and again. Readers might wonder, ‘Why?’ does this<br />
associate receive so much recognition? This feature article<br />
will help you understand the answer. This issue turns the<br />
spotlight on Jessica Dolan, a discharge planner in Social<br />
Services at <strong>St</strong>. Catherine Labouré Manor. Jessica has<br />
received Spirit Cards three out of the last four months.<br />
SCLM Assistant Administrator Teresa Butts says,<br />
“Jessica is sensitive to the individual needs of the residents<br />
and family members she serves. She utilizes their strengths<br />
to form a discharge plan that is safe, meets their needs<br />
and encourages ongoing independence. She is respectful<br />
of their wishes and engages them in the decision making<br />
process which leads to patient empowerment.”<br />
Initially, Jessica thought she was headed into a different<br />
field of medicine but after hearing speeches on other<br />
disciplines as an undergraduate, she began to consider the<br />
field of social work. “This field matches my desire to help<br />
people,” said Jessica.<br />

As a discharge planner, Jessica works with the short term<br />
rehab population, primarily orthopedic patients. “Just<br />
smiling and greeting patients helps them feel welcome,”<br />
Jessica said. “I truly enjoy making a difference.”<br />
“We have a great interdisciplinary team that includes<br />
Nursing, Therapy, Dietary, Activities and Social Work,”<br />
said Jessica whose co-workers think she’s pretty special<br />
too. They recognize her frequently with Spirit Cards!<br />
