Clinical Practice Development Program Awards<br />

The room was filled with excitement as leadership, associates and their families gathered at <strong>St</strong>. Vincent’s for the Clinical<br />
Practice Development Program (CPDP) awards celebration on July 25.<br />
CPDP is designed to recognize and compensate professional nurses who demonstrate superior clinical skills. The program,<br />
similar to an accreditation process, requires experienced nurses involved in direct patient care to apply and demonstrate their<br />
superior clinical skills to reach the level of Clinical Nurse III, Proficient Level, or Clinical Nurse IV, Expert Level, each year to<br />
receive special recognition and bonuses.<br />
The program’s philosophy states: The CPDP creates a pathway for each nurse to achieve the highest level of clinical<br />
expertise. Those nurses who choose to advance in the program are recognized for their efforts to further their education,<br />
achieve and maintain national certification, contribute to improving safety and organizational performance, investigate new<br />
nursing evidence and demonstrate leadership within the organization and community.<br />
The recent recognition was a repeat performance for many of the 29 nurses<br />
honored, making it obvious that they have an unquenchable thirst for higher<br />
clinical expertise! Congratulations to each of these nurses and thank you<br />
for your dedication to nursing excellence!<br />

Fourteen of the 17 SLH nurses recognized during the CDPD<br />
event work at <strong>St</strong>. Luke’s Family Birth Place. Several of them were<br />
unable to attend because they were working. Althea Whitehead,<br />
Director of Women’s Services/SLH (right) received a lot of teasing<br />
from Karen Darnell, Rose Rivers and Lorraine Keith each time<br />
she accepted the award for one of her associates.<br />
