The Duval County Health Department
says the county is currently experiencing
a “West Nile Outbreak” and has
issued a Mosquito-Borne Illness Alert.
As of August 11 2011, there were eight
confirmed cases and one death with as
many as 800-1,200 people affected in
Duval County. The eight confirmed
cases have all been on the Westside in
zip codes 32205, 32210, 32244 and
32254. There was also one West Nile
death reported in Glynn County.
Symptoms of West Nile virus may
include headache, fever, fatigue,
dizziness, weakness and confusion.
While health officials in Duval say they
have a mosquito response plan in place,
they encourage all residents to take the
following precautions:
• DRAIN standing water to stop
mosquitoes from multiplying
• COVER skin with clothing or
repellent.
• COVER doors and windows with
screens to keep mosquitoes out of
your house

LEAP Back to School

We all know the cost of higher
education is on the rise. If you are
one of many who find themselves
wanting to go back to school but
are unsure of how to afford it,
St. Vincent’s is here to help. The
Learning Education Assistance
Program (LEAP) helps people
enhance their knowledge, skills
and abilities to achieve higher
education goals.
Tuition reimbursement is available for
St. Vincent’s associates in a budgeted
position scheduled 48 - 80 hours per
pay period and who have completed
at least one year of employment in a
benefit eligible position. Full time
associates may receive up to $3,000
per calendar year and part time
associates may receive up to $1,500
in tuition reimbursements. Certification
testing and preparation classes
are covered up to $1,000.
To take advantage of LEAP you
must submit your application to the
Benefits Department along with a
print-out of your course schedule, a
receipt showing tuition paid in full
(including how payment was made)
and your grades/proof of completion
within sixty (60) days of course end
or exam date. Remember: approved
courses should directly relate to an
associate’s present or potential future
position within St. Vincent’s. Associates
must also agree to remain employed
with St. Vincent’s in a benefit
eligible position for one year from
the reimbursement date or pay
back a pro-rated amount of the
reimbursement.
