Prepared Responders Emergency Pool (PREP) Launched
Since coming together as a national
health ministry more than a decade ago,
Ascension Health has seen a number of
the communities it serves face emergency
situations.
Last year, a system-wide Emergency
Management Task Force recommended
establishing a group of core volunteers
who would be ready and willing to assist
at Health Ministries such as
St. Vincent’s HealthCare during an
emergency. In response, the Prepared
Responders Emergency Pool (PREP)
has been developed to provide a pool of
emergency responders that can be called
upon in the event Ascension Health
experiences an emergency situation.
“When a disaster affects a Health
Ministry, a review will be conducted
to determine if PREP clinicians are
needed,” said Suzann Bylund, a Director
at Ascension Health with oversight
of Emergency Preparedness. “Processes
are in place to coordinate an emergency
deployment, compensation processing,
expense reimbursement, licensure verifications
and other program operational
needs. When needed, PREP clinicians
will be notified through an emergency
notification system.”
Registered Nurses, physicians,
pharmacists and respiratory therapists
are needed to support PREP.
PREP clinicians will be approved
through an application process. Once
an application is submitted, the applicant’s
supervisor will be contacted
to approve his or her participation in
PREP. At each Health Ministry, the
Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
will assist in managing PREP clinicians
locally.

We Need Team Captains for Heart Walk

St. Vincent’s HealthCare is proud
to announce a partnership with the
American Heart Association for the
2011 Heart Walk event and we need
you! We are looking for team captains
to recruit, motivate and above all, lead
members of the St. Vincent’s Heart
Walk team to success at the walk on
Sept. 24.
As a sponsor, St. Vincent’s will educate
the community about the new “Hands
Only” CPR. St. Vincent’s HealthCare
will have a tent set up at the event to
promote the “Two Steps to Save Lives”
campaign.
I believe we will show the First Coast
that we are truly community-minded
associates who understand the
importance of the fight against heart
disease. Heart disease and stroke are
our nation’s number one and three
killers. The dollars we raise could
save the lives of your family, friends,
co-workers, neighbors…or even
your own life! My goal for us at
St. Vincent’s is to raise money, save
lives and have fun while doing so.

registered. Our goal is a team from
