By Kathie Ford Marketing & Communications Sisters Clare Marie Angermaier, Virginia Ann Brooks, Joan Drega, Patricia Nee, and Cora Anne Signaigo are five Daughters of Charity who quietly carry out the mission of SVHC. Sisters’ Corner is a Mediscoop feature that will introduce the Sisters and their unique ministries to our associates. This month, you’ll learn of the many ways Vincentian Coordinator Sister Patricia Nee touches our lives and the many who seek assistance through St. Vincent’s Food Pantry. The food pantry is open to the community on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Donations come from doctors, associates and food drives from local schools, in particular, San Juan del Rio School. Some of our associates are working on the gardens outside the cafeteria and Allen Darby brings the fruits of these gardens to the food pantry. In 2010, 1,605 families were served through the Food Bank. Those families included 2,687 adults and 1,751 children. Sr. Patricia shares an interesting incident that happened during a trip to Publix on a day when the food pantry was very low. “The man behind me in line asked if this was for a food pantry and I answered yes. He said he had volunteered in a food pantry and understood the need. He then said to put the purchases on his bill. The bill came up to over $80. When I asked for his name, all he would tell me was his first name. I thanked him and assured him of my prayers for his generosity.” Sr. Patricia Nee is always excited to receive fresh vegetables from St. Vincent’s Life Garden to enhance groceries given through the Food Pantry. These are the items most in need at this time: • cereal • fruit • soup • vegetables • canned meat/fish • spaghetti/spaghetti sauce • rice - 1 lb. • canned pasta • beans • dry milk - 1 qt. pkg. Your contributions will make a difference in the lives of those who turn to the St. Vincent’s Food Pantry in times of need. Thank you, Sr. Patricia, for all that you do to keep the Food Pantry shelves stocked, organized and ready to provide food to the hungry. 10 AUGUST 2011
Be Well Expanding the Wellness Program: BLOG with Us! By Jennifer Stein, Wellness Coordinator A new way to keep up with all that’s going on at SVHC is to check out the new Be Well BLOG that was started in response to increased interest in social networking. The vision of the wellness blog is to provide a platform for associates to increase their health and wellness knowledge and to share testimonies of lifestyle changes and healthy behaviors. As the wellness coordinator, I hope to stimulate discussion and questions about topics posted on the blog. This is a way to connect with the wellness program at your convenience. Posts are updated weekly and information is shared across all dimensions of wellness: physical, social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and environmental. It’s a great resource and a fun way to look back at SVHC events that you may or may not have attended.
