St. Vincent’s and St. Luke’s Receive
Achievement Award
St. Vincent’s Medical Center and St. Luke’s
Hospital have each received the Get With
The Guidelines ® –Heart Failure Bronze
Performance Achievement Award from
the American Heart Association. The
recognition signifies the two hospitals have
reached an aggressive goal of treating heart
failure patients for at least 90 days with
85 percent compliance to core standard
levels of care outlined by the American
Heart Association/American College of
Cardiology secondary prevention
guidelines for heart failure patients.
Get With The Guidelines is a quality
improvement initiative that provides
hospital staff with tools that prevent
future hospitalizations. In addition,
heart failure patients are started on
aggressive risk reduction therapies such as
cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers,
ACE inhibitors, aspirin, diuretics, and
anticoagulants in hospitals following the
treatment guidelines. They also receive a
referral for cardiac rehabilitation before
being discharged.
“St. Vincent’s Medical Center has long been
known as Northeast Florida’s heart center.
We are proud to offer the same level of care
at St. Luke’s Hospital. This honor further
distinguishes the difference in care our
cardiac patients receive at St. Vincent’s
HealthCare. I am proud of our medical
staff and associates whose work means
the difference between life and death for
patients that trust their lives to us,” said
Moody Chisholm, CEO of St. Vincent’s
HealthCare.
“The goal of the American Heart
Association’s Get With The Guidelines
program is to help hospitals implement
appropriate evidence-based care and
protocols that will reduce disability and
the number of deaths in these patients.
Published scientific studies are providing us
with more and more evidence that Get With
The Guidelines works. Patients are getting
the right care they need when they need
it. That’s resulting in improved survival,”
said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., chair of the
Get With The Guidelines National Steering
Committee and director of the TeleStroke
Among Us
The St. Vincent’s HealthCare Foundation Guardian Angel Program allows patients and family members to pay
tribute to a special healthcare professional who made a difference in their visit or stay at SVMC, SLH, or SCLM.
It is wonderful to know that there are many Guardian Angels among us!
Several associates have been recognized as Guardian Angels recently, with each one receiving a custom-crafted
“Guardian Angel” lapel pin in a special ceremony in their department or unit.
Gifts to the Guardian Angel Program benefit the Good Samaritan Fund, which cares for patients at St. Vincent’s,
St. Luke’s and St. Catherine, who do not have adequate resources to meet their ongoing needs once discharged.
Be Informed
Consolidating Your
Retirement Accounts
Looking for an easier way to manage your retirement savings?
One account can make it easy!
Why consolidate?
When you consolidate multiple retirement
accounts, you could save time,
potentially reduce your costs, and
improve how you manage your investing
strategy. With a single account, it
will be easier for you to take a cohesive
approach to retirement planning, monitor
how your investments are performing,
and take any corrective measures
to keep your strategy on track. It could
also preserve access to your contributions
through a loan from your 403(b)
or 401(k) plan account. Note that plan
loans are not permitted from 401(a)
plan accounts.
Let’s say your company is bought
by another firm and your retirement
accounts must be moved; or your
employer moved the plan to a new
service provider but your accounts
stayed with the original service
provider. Perhaps you’ve changed
jobs but left your 401(k) or 403(b)
account behind. You could easily end
up with multiple accounts at different
providers.
Save time and paperwork
All those statements and paperwork!
How do you keep track of it all?
Consolidating your accounts into a
single account could substantially
reduce your paperwork. And think
about the time you could save with just
one point of contact—one website and
one phone number!
Control fees and expenses
You may be paying more than you
have to if you’re maintaining multiple
accounts. You should carefully review
the fees and expenses you pay to see if
consolidating your accounts could help
reduce your costs. By reducing your
costs, you’ll have more of your money
working for you to build your nest egg
faster.
Manage your investing strategy
With a consolidated account, you’ll
have a clearer understanding of your
total retirement portfolio and how your
assets are allocated. You’ll know how
your investments are performing without
having to do elaborate calculations.
This may make it easier to take action
to improve your investing strategy.
Create a withdrawal strategy
for retirement
Once you consolidate your retirement
accounts, it will be much easier to
arrange to receive retirement income
from your account. You’ll appreciate
the time savings.
Simplify your estate planning
Looking a little further down the road,
picture how much easier it will be for
you to arrange which assets go to each
beneficiary, and how much simpler it
will be for your heirs to manage the
financial details of your estate, if your
retirement assets are all together in one
account.
St. Vincent’s Environmental Director
“Even doing something small to improve
Having a baby can be one of the greatest
memories in a father’s life. St. Vincent’s
Family Birth Place Nurse Manager Althea
Whitehead, St. Vincent’s nurses, and IT
specialists welcomed the opportunity to make
it possible for one Dad serving 7,000 miles
away in Iraq to be in on his baby’s delivery!
Stephanie Neel’s husband is serving in the
military in Iraq, and had planned to come
back a week before the due date, but his
little bundle of joy decided to come early.
When Neel came to St. Vincent’s, her mother
brought their webcam and laptop and
worked with Mark Foster, a member of our
IT staff, so Dad could see the whole birth
live via webcam from Iraq. Soon after the
delivery, the American Red Cross made
arrangements for Dad to catch a flight
home to be with his wife and new baby.
system bringing
new life for our
job until everyone is satisfied and the
work is done correctly.
Sean McCaulley
Central Supply
someone in need.
Sean also thinks outside the box, coming
St. Luke’s
Recently, Mike
helped with an
and wisdom, he let
understands that the
more we care for others, the greater is
our own sense of well being.
St. Vincent’s Medical Center
Ernie’s knowledge
of each patient’s
condition, and his
attention to their
individual needs, are
feats in and of themselves.
However, his
true gift is his ability
to teach, reassure,
and put the patient’s
mind at ease with
an incredible amount of kindness and
patience.
