Motor-Spindle Safety System MS 3
Overload and Collision Protection
Collision Protection
In milling machine tools, enormous impact forces act on
the motor-spindle in case of tool collision with high feed
rates. Five-figure (Euro) servicing and repair costs are
common after a collision. The newly developed JAKOB
motor-spindle safety system disconnects power transmission
immediately at the interface between spindle box
and motor-spindle in case of collision-caused overload.
Therefore the shock-prone components of the motorspindle
are effectively protected from high force peaks.
Safety Solution for Motor-Spindles
Field of Application
Protective element for machine tools in which components of the motor-spindle such as bearings, shaft,
clamping system and transducer need to be protected from collision and overload-caused damages.
Description of Function
Overload protection in case of collision through all-round protection of the motor-spindle with subsequent repositioning.
Automatic disconnection in case of exceeding holding forces. The deflection of the motor-spindle
can, depending on the type of collision, either happen through disengagement or pivoting in case of axial
or radial collision, respectively. During the subsequent clearing of the motor-spindle after collision, the safety
system is restored back to its initial center position precisely through springs and a self-centering separator .
Operating Principle
+ Permanent magnets integrated into the seperator for high holding forces and stiffness
+ Springs and shock absorbers for automatic repositioning and impact absorption
+ Interlocking double-flange system for high precision of reengagement
