paintings; or reading provocative magazines or books; or listening to provocative songs or talk. Or I<br />
might have committed similar acts.<br />
If I have indulged in any of the above faults or lapses by physical, verbal or mental activities,<br />
directly or indirectly, then I pray that my such faults be dissolved. TASSA MICHCHHÄ MI<br />

Lesson 12 - Limitation on Accumulations (Ichchhä Parimäna Vrata)<br />
Fifth partial Vow (Anuvrat): (Ichchhä Parimäna or Parigraha-Parimänvrata) - for Shrävaks<br />
absolute renunciation of parigraha is not possible; he/she should lay limitations to the acquisition<br />
and possession.<br />
I might have violated the set limits to the accumulation of (1) kshetra -land or fields (2) västu -<br />
houses (3) hiranya -gold coins (4) suvarna -gold (5) dhana -heads of cattle (6) dhänya -grains (7)<br />
däsi -maidservants (8) däsa -male servants (9) kupya -clothes (10) shayyäsana - beds and furniture.<br />
I might not have done business at a reasonable profit. I might have cheated to maintain the set<br />
limits, or get to the set limits. While accumulating things, I might have not considered whether it is<br />
moral or immoral, religious or irreligious, worth possessing or not, beneficial or harmful.<br />

Lesson 13 - Geographic Limitations (Digvrata)<br />
Next three vows are Gunavrata – that increases the quality of the first five partial vows. First two<br />
Gunavrata establish appropriate limits of the mind, and the third controls unnecessary activities.<br />
Sixth Vow - First (Supporting) Gunavrata: Digvrata: Voluntarily, the aspirant takes a vow not to<br />
travel beyond predetermined limits. By fixing the limits in all the ten directions, one's greed, which<br />
is at the root of parigraha, is curtailed.<br />
I might have resorted to violence of this vow by sending letters, messengers, telegrams, or by using<br />
telephone, or by ordering goods. I might have entertained thoughts in my mind about exceeding the<br />
limits. Even though I had set limits, I might have been crazy about and purchased, used, or traded<br />
in goods outside the set limits. I might not have restricted myself within the set limits.<br />

Lesson 14 - Limitation on Consumption & Occupations (Bhogopabhoga-Parimänvrata)<br />
Seventh Vow - Second (Supporting) Gunavrata - Bhogopabhoga-Parimänvrata – In this vow, the<br />
householder puts limitations to the use of objects of senses categorized as those for Bhoga and<br />
Upabhoga in order to his/her capacity for self-restraint and will-power. Here, Bhoga is consumption<br />
of items that can be used only once like food. Upbhoga is use of durable articles that can be<br />
repeatedly used like houses, furniture, clothes, jewelry and vehicles.<br />
