Primarily Sub-Antarctic in the Atlantic, possibly circum-Antarctic. FAO Areas 41, 48. Upper<br />

to deep slope, abyssal plains and seamounts. 300-2240m.<br />

Bathyraja microtrachys (Osburn & Nichols, 1916). Fine-spined skate<br />

Eastern Central Pacific: western USA. FAO Area 77. Deep slope and abyssal plains. 1995-<br />

2900m. Validity follows Ebert (2003) as separate from Bathyraja trachura (Gilbert, 1892).<br />

Southwest Atlantic and Southeast Pacific: southern South America. FAO Areas 41, 87. Outer<br />

shelf and upper slope. 82-740m. A record at 1900m off Uruguay requires confirmation.<br />

Bathyraja murrayi (Günther, 1880). Murray's skate<br />

Antarctic Indian: Kerguelen and Heard Islands, but possibly circum-Antarctic. FAO Areas<br />

48(?), 58, 88(?). Shelf and upper slope. 30-650m.<br />

Bathyraja notoroensis Ishiyama & Ishihara, 1977. Notoro skate<br />

Northwest Pacific: Japan. FAO Area 61. Upper slope. ~600m. Possible synonym of Bathyraja<br />

matsubarai (Ishiyama, 1952).<br />

Bathyraja pallida (Forster, 1967). Pallid skate<br />

Northeast Atlantic: Bay of Biscay. FAO Area 27. Deep slope and abyssal plains. 2200-<br />

2500m.<br />

Bathyraja papilionifera Stehmann, 1985. Butterfly skate<br />

Southwest Atlantic: Argentina and the Falkland/Malvinas Islands. FAO Area 41. Upper to<br />

deep slope and seamounts. 637-2000m.<br />

upper to mid slope. 20-1425m. Includes the synonym Bathyraja simoterus (Ishiyama, 1967).<br />

Southeast Pacific: Ecuador to Chile. FAO Area 87. Upper to mid slope. 600-1060m.<br />

Bathyraja richardsoni (Garrick, 1961). Richardson's skate<br />

Patchy in the North Atlantic (Canada and France) and Southwest Pacific (New Zealand).<br />

FAO Areas 21, 27, 81. Mid to deep slope, abyssal plains and seamounts. 1110-2500m.<br />

Bathyraja scaphiops (Norman, 1937). Cuphead skate<br />

Southwest Atlantic: Argentina and the Falkland/Malvinas Islands. FAO Area 41. Outer shelf<br />

and upper slope. 104-509m (most common 104-159m).<br />

Bathyraja schroederi (Krefft, 1968). Whitemouth skate<br />

Southwest Atlantic and Southeast Pacific: southern South America. FAO Areas 41, 87. Mid<br />

to deep slope and abyssal plains. 800-2380m.<br />
