Squalus mitsukurii Jordan & Snyder, in Jordan & Fowler, 1903. Shortspine spurdog<br />

Wide-ranging, but patchy in temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific,<br />

but not well defined due to taxonomic issues. FAO Areas 31, 41, 34(?), 47(?), 51, 57, 61, 71,<br />

77, 81, 87. Shelf and upper to mid slope, submarine ridges and seamounts. 4-954m (100-<br />

500m usual). Resolution of considerable taxonomic issues is ongoing. Tentatively includes<br />

the junior synonyms Squalus griffini Phillipps, 1931 and Squalus probatovi Myagkov &<br />

Kondyurin, 1986.<br />
