Congress Overview<br />

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Inc. is a nonprofit<br />

organization with more than 2,800 members from over 70 countries. Operating for<br />

scientific and educational purposes, its objectives are to advance science and<br />

encourage research relating to medical problems of thrombosis and abnormalities of<br />

hemostasis and vascular biology. The <strong>ISTH</strong> achieves its objectives through scientific<br />

meetings, publications and educational outreach programs.<br />

Congress History<br />

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis holds scientific Congresses<br />

every two years. During the past decade, Congresses have been held in Geneva<br />

(2007), in Sydney (2005), in Birmingham (2003), in Paris (2001), and in<br />

Washington, DC (1999).<br />

<strong>ISTH</strong> <strong>2009</strong> Congress<br />

<strong>ISTH</strong> will hold its XXII nd Biennial Congress (<strong>ISTH</strong> <strong>2009</strong>) from July 11-16, <strong>2009</strong> in<br />

beautiful Boston, United States of America. With its location, served by an excellent<br />

transport and communication infrastructure, Boston expects to attract more than<br />

7,500 delegates and accompanying partners and approximately 600 trade<br />

representatives. The different sponsorship packages outlined in this document are<br />

proposals only, and we welcome input from potential sponsors to ensure the<br />

packages meet their needs.<br />

Congress Promotion<br />

A professionally planned marketing strategy will attract delegates by ensuring that the<br />

benefits of attending <strong>ISTH</strong> <strong>2009</strong> are widely known around the world. This includes:<br />

Extensive direct mail campaigns<br />

Website and electronic promotions<br />

Editorial and display advertising in professional journals<br />

Active participation and promotion at intervening regional meetings<br />

relating to the main scientific themes<br />

Scientific Program Outline<br />

<strong>ISTH</strong> <strong>2009</strong> will offer a scientific program highlighting the latest basic and clinical<br />

advances in the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis. The meeting will focus on the<br />

following fields:<br />

Thrombotic Disorders<br />

Hemorrhagic Disorders<br />

Platelets - Clinical<br />

Platelets - Basic Science<br />

Coagulation and Fibrinolysis<br />

Vascular Biology<br />

Planning is underway for plenary sessions, symposium sessions, and state-of-the-art<br />

lectures. Accepted abstracts will be presented either in oral sessions or as posters. As<br />

at <strong>ISTH</strong> 2005 in Sydney and at <strong>ISTH</strong> 2007 in Geneva, industry partners will have<br />

the opportunity to sponsor symposia. A total of 14 Special Symposia will be offered,<br />

divided between Sunday July 12 and Monday July 13. The program and speakers for<br />

the Special Symposia will be arranged after consultation between the sponsor and the<br />

Scientific Program Committee. A total of 15 Satellite Symposia will be offerred on<br />

Wednesday July 15. 10 Technical Sessions will be offered on Tuesday July 14.<br />

We look forward to working with you in enhancing the scientific program for<br />

<strong>ISTH</strong> <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
