Congress and Exhibition Venue 

The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center is one of the most 

user-friendly convention facilities in the world, with flexibility in 

every area. Events can be customized in 516,000 square feet 

of contiguous exhibit space, 84 configurable meeting rooms, 

over 300,000 square feet of function area, eight registration 

areas, and a 40,020 square foot ballroom. It is close to major 

transportation systems and a short driving distance from Boston’s 

Back Bay and Financial District.

us in Boston for ISTH’s XXII nd Congress and the 55 th meeting of 

its Scientific and Standardization Committee. The Congress, 

scheduled for July 11-16, 2009, will be held at the new, stateof-the-art 

Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston’s 

Seaport District. 

In addition to an excellent program of basic and clinical 

science, the Congress will include an Educational Program 

covering important topics of current interest in thrombosis and 

hemostasis. 

Boston’s compact size makes both the Congress activities and

Congress Overview 

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Inc. is a nonprofit 

organization with more than 2,800 members from over 70 countries. Operating for 

scientific and educational purposes, its objectives are to advance science and 

encourage research relating to medical problems of thrombosis and abnormalities of 

hemostasis and vascular biology. The ISTH achieves its objectives through scientific 

meetings, publications and educational outreach programs. 

Congress History 

The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis holds scientific Congresses 

every two years. During the past decade, Congresses have been held in Geneva 

(2007), in Sydney (2005), in Birmingham (2003), in Paris (2001), and in 

Washington, DC (1999). 

ISTH 2009 Congress 

ISTH will hold its XXII nd Biennial Congress (ISTH 2009) from July 11-16, 2009 in 

beautiful Boston, United States of America. With its location, served by an excellent 

transport and communication infrastructure, Boston expects to attract more than 

7,500 delegates and accompanying partners and approximately 600 trade 

representatives. The different sponsorship packages outlined in this document are 

proposals only, and we welcome input from potential sponsors to ensure the 

packages meet their needs.

Scientific Program Outline 

ISTH 2009 will offer a scientific program highlighting the latest basic and clinical 

advances in the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis. The meeting will focus on the

Planning is underway for plenary sessions, symposium sessions, and state-of-the-art 

lectures. Accepted abstracts will be presented either in oral sessions or as posters. As 

at ISTH 2005 in Sydney and at ISTH 2007 in Geneva, industry partners will have 

the opportunity to sponsor symposia. A total of 14 Special Symposia will be offered, 

divided between Sunday July 12 and Monday July 13. The program and speakers for 

the Special Symposia will be arranged after consultation between the sponsor and the 

Scientific Program Committee. A total of 15 Satellite Symposia will be offerred on 

Wednesday July 15. 10 Technical Sessions will be offered on Tuesday July 14.

Center at official time slots offered by ISTH as posted in this 2009 Sponsorship & Exhibition Manual. Companies 

organizing a symposium or session outside the BCEC and not at an official slot will be fined with USD $70,000 

and will not be invited to participate at the two following ISTH Meetings. ISTH also reserves the right to close the 

company’s booth if exhibiting at the Congress. 



Awards 

YOUNG INVESTIGATORS AWARDS USD $2,000 each 


The Young Investigators Awards are provided in the form of travel 

grants to medical trainees and young scientists and are intended 

to assist with expenses relating to their participation at the 

Congress. This has always proved a useful and popular form of 

assistance. The responsibility for selection rests with the Scientific 

Program Committee. 

DEVELOPING WORLD SCIENTISTS USD $3,400 each 


Awarded to ISTH 2009 participants from developing countries 

who submit an accepted abstract to the Scientific Program 

Committee. The Award is in conjunction with the ISTH ‘Reach the 

World’ program and is intended to assist awardees with 

expenses related to their attendance at the Congress. 

Awards 

ISTH 2009 will accept these contributions into an Award 

Sponsorship Fund that will serve as a pool of funds that 

underwrite the Young Investigator and Developing World Scientist 

Awards. All contributors to this pooled fund will be 

acknowledged in a listing in the Final Program, on signage at the 

meeting site, and on the website. Award recipients will receive a 

list of the contributors to this fund as well.

The ISTH 2009 Congress Registration and Call for Abstract 

Brochure will be extensively distributed to potential participants 

around the world. The brochure will contain registration forms,

Assignment of Space 

Every possible effort to assign the preferred booth location will be 

made, however MCI Suisse SA cannot guarantee that they can 

honor all requests. Exhibitors wishing to avoid assignment of 

space adjacent to a particular competitor should indicate so on 

their application form. Careful consideration will be given to all 

requests. However, ISTH and MCI Suisse SA can not guarantee 

that they can honor all requests. The Secretariat reserves the right 

to relocate or reassign booths at any time for the overall benefit 

of the meeting. If a preferred space is not available, the 

Secretariat will contact each company to discuss alternative 

space availabilities. 

Exhibitor Registration 

All exhibitors are required to be registered and will receive a 

badge displaying the exhibiting company name. Two exhibitor 

badges will be given for the first 100 sq. ft. (9 sq.m.) booked and 

one additional badge for each 100 sq. ft. (9 sq.m.) booked. 

Any additional exhibitors will be charged an exhibitor 

registration fee of USD $210. An exhibitor registration form will 

be included in the exhibitors’ technical manual sent to all 

exhibitors in early 2009. 

In order to allow exhibitors to attend sessions of interest, 1 special 

pass, providing access to scientific sessions will be given for 

every 2 exhibitor badges allocated. 

Exhibition Layout 

Exhibitors occupying space-only stands are required to submit 

a detailed plan of their stand to MCI Suisse SA for approval 

by April 1, 2009. 

Amendments to Exhibition Layout 

While every effort is made to preserve the published layout of the 

exhibition, MCI Suisse SA shall be entitled to vary the layout if 

this is in the general interest of the exhibition. 

Manning of Stands 

Exhibitors will be required to ensure that their stands are manned 

during the opening hours of the exhibition and must not dismantle 

their stands before the published closing time.

Exhibition 

Noise 

Exhibitors may not use audible electronic, mechanical apparatus, 

or open audio systems which may be heard outside the exhibitor’s 

assigned space. MCI Suisse SA, on behalf of ISTH and its 

Organizers, reserves the right to require any exhibitor to 

discontinue any activity that may cause annoyance or interference 

with others. 

Company / Product Profile 

A complete listing of all exhibitors, including a 100-word entry 

will be included in the Final Program and is distributed to all 

attendees. An online submission system will be available to enter 

your company / product profile. 

Give-aways and Distribution of Printed Materials 

Give-aways and printed material may only be distributed in the 

space rented by the exhibitor in the exhibition hall, in hospitality 

suites, or at special and satellite symposia. No such material may 

be distributed in any hotel used by the meeting. Product 

identification is permitted on give-aways. Contests, lotteries and 

raffles are subject to approval by the Local Organizing Committee.

The acceptance of a product or service for exhibition does not in 

any manner constitute an endorsement by ISTH or its Organizers. 

Security and Insurance 

ISTH and its Organizers will not be held responsible for any loss 

or damage to exhibitors’ goods and exhibitors are reminded that 

they should obtain their own insurance to cover for this.

Health and Safety at Work Regulations 

It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that its contractor, 

employees, displays, and exhibits comply with the latest 

legislation regarding Health and Safety at Work regulations. 

Failure to Occupy Space 

Exhibitors not occupying booth space by 8:00 PM on Saturday, 

July 12, 2009, will forfeit their booth space without refund. The 

space may be resold or used by the ISTH. 

Cancellation of Booth Space 

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to MCI Suisse SA (see 

address page 2). The Exhibit Manager will record the official 

cancellation date as the date of receipt of the exhibitor's written 

notice of cancellation.

ISTH 2009 Rules and Regulations 

ISTH Abstract Embargo Policy 

Accepted abstracts are published on a CD-ROM at the Congress (the 

“Abstract CD-ROM”). Information contained in abstracts may not be 

released until midnight (Eastern Standard Time, North America) July 12, 

the opening day of the Congress. 

Academic institutions, private organizations and companies with 

products whose value may be influenced by information contained in an 

abstract, may issue a press release to coincide with the availability of an 

abstract on the CD-ROM. However, ISTH requires that information going 

beyond that contained in the abstract, such as discussion of the abstract, 

presentation of data or other details that will be presented at the 

Congress, is under embargo as outlined above. Violation of the 

embargo may result in the abstract being withdrawn from the Congress 

and/or other measures deemed appropriate. 

It is not considered a violation of this policy if the information contained 

in the abstract is presented or has been accepted for presentation at 

another meeting (as noted during abstract submission), or if the abstract 

is published in a peer reviewed journal after the abstract submission 

deadline. 

It is the responsibility of the submitting author to inform interested parties 

about this policy. 

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 

Approval and Off-Label Indications 

The mention (directly or indirectly) of pharmaceutical products not 

approved by the FDA for use within the United States is strictly 

prohibited. Symposia, conferences, handouts or literature of any kind 

that mention such products directly or indirectly are, likewise, prohibited 

from display in the exhibit space or in spaces contracted by the ISTH. 

An exhibiting organization may disseminate from its exhibit space peerreviewed 

journal articles about off-label indications of its product(s), 

provided the company commits itself to file a supplemental application 

based on appropriate research, to establish the safety and effectiveness 

of the unapproved use.

and all guidelines and codes regarding the relationship between the

Each exhibitor shall be responsible for compliance with the Americans 

with Disabilities Act with regard to its booth space, including, but not 

limited to, wheelchair access provisions. Exhibitors shall indemnify, hold 

harmless, and defend the ISTH and MCI and their officers, directors, 

agents, members and employees from and against any claims, liabilities, 

losses, damages and expenses, including attorney's fees and expenses, 

resulting from or arising out of the exhibitors' failure or allegations of 

exhibitors' failure to comply with the provisions of the ADA. 

Cancellation of Exhibition 

It is mutually agreed that in the event of total or partial cancellation of the 

Congress due to fire, strike, natural disaster (either threatened or actual), 

government regulations or causes which would prevent its scheduled 

opening or continuance, this agreement will be terminated immediately, 

and the ISTH shall determine an equitable basis for the refund of a 

portion of the exhibit fees, after due consideration of expenditures and 

commitments already made. Under no circumstances is the ISTH 

responsible for any exhibitor's expenses (such as travel, lodging, or 

exhibit shipping), or any other incidental or consequential damages. 

Third Party Companies 

MCI as well as ISTH will communicate exclusively with clearly identified 

third party companies officially mandated by participating exhibitors and 

sponsors. Queries received from third party companies (i.e. 

communication and press agencies) which do not clearly indicate which 

company they are representing will not be answered.
