Mayton Street Festival community event
Category: Community facilities
Sub-category: Community support funding
Priority: 1 - High
Approx cost: £4,000
Funds secured: £0
Following the successful revival of the Mayton Street
Festival last year (with 850 attendees) we want to put
on an even better event this year. The street festival
will contribute to better community involvement and
renewed pride in the local area. Using the Old Fire
Station as the base for the festival means that we can
draw on the building’s long history in the area of
tackling poverty and contributing to the economic and
social vibrancy of the area.
In a recent ward consultation event held at the Old
Fire Station, participants said that their top priority
was strengthening the sense of community.
Holding a festival in the street is a very direct way
of engaging directly with local people and can help
generate pride and boost interest in an area. The
event will be free, and with mass publicity we
expect local residents to turn out in force.
