Helping parents back into work
If you are an unemployed parent, with
a child aged under-five, you will have
seen that your benefits are changing and
it is likely that you will get less money.
The best way to increase your family’s
income is to get a job, and the Islington
Working for Parents team can help you
do just that.
Their friendly team will work with you
on a one-to-one basis and provide a
personal service that is tailored to your
needs. This might be helping you to find
and apply for the right jobs, prepare
for interviews, or even just giving you
that extra confidence boost. Through
contacts with other teams and agencies,
the team can also help you look at other
things such as the best way to improve
your income and the childcare options
available.
The team have helped hundreds
of parents back into work. Let them
help you.
A new year –
a new career?
Islington Council runs many free courses
to help residents to develop the skills and
confidence needed to get into work or into
further education.
To enrol on a course all you need to do is
come along to your local learning centre at
either Hargrave Park, 3Corners, Arsenal Red
Zone, or First Steps on 17 or 18 December.
Here you can also chat to our friendly staff
about the right course for you.
Cherri Nadine is
a single parent
with a five year
old son. Cherri
contacted
Islington Working for Parents in
2011 and she told us how the
team helped her:
“At first we completed an
assessment and I attended a
confidence course. My adviser,
Lindsay, then helped me to get a
volunteering opportunity with the
council’s Energy Advice team.
“I worked towards a qualification
in Energy Awareness and she
supported me in applying for a job
as a Warm and Healthy Homes
Assessor with the council. I was
successful and started work on
1 October.”
