Are you living
a Hearty Life?
Did you know that cardiovascular
diseases - those that involve the heart
or blood vessels - are the leading cause
of death in Islington, with around 370
deaths each year?
Four out of ten of these deaths are
in residents under the age of 75 and are
potentially preventable. These figures
are higher than the average for the rest
of London and England as a whole.
Hearty Lives Islington (HLI) is a joint
environmental health and British Heart
Foundation project working on healthy
eating, one of the main lifestyle choices
affecting heart health. HLI recently
launched a workplace health initiative to
raise awareness amongst employees of
local small to medium sized businesses
on how to make healthier choices using
food labels.
Two important things you can do to
live a hearty life are:
reduce salt, saturated fat
and sugar in your diet
eat more fruit and veg.
