Adult learning
Every year the council offers hundreds of free adult
learning courses to residents who are over 19,
unemployed, or low-waged and receiving benefits.
Now there's even more to choose from!
Giving adults more opportunity to learn
The council recently formed an
exciting new partnership with City
and Islington College, meaning
adults in Islington can now access
even more free courses and some
additional low cost ones. This means
there is more opportunity for adult
learners to develop confidence,
gain skills, get a job or prepare for
further education.
Through this partnership
residents will be able to easily
access and progress to vocational
courses in areas such as health and
social care, hairdressing, business
and accounting.

Our adult learning
courses really do
make a difference
and help local
residents get back
into the workforce.
We spoke to Andrew Brinn who
after working for the same company
for 20 years was made redundant
and was out of work for 14 months.
Andrew took IT and literacy
courses with Islington Council and
here he talks about how this changed
his situation for the best.
How did the courses help you?
“They helped improve my confidence.
I was sitting at home, moping and
getting depressed. Doing the courses
got me out and looking for work.
“The tutors also helped me to
prepare a covering letter and CV to
really highlight my experience.”
What are you doing now?
“I am working again as a Trade
Assistant for another building supplier
and I now feel confident enough to
apply for a manager’s post.”
