5. Remove the broken shear key halves by gripping them<br />

with pliers or vise grips and pulling them out.<br />

6. Insert the new shear key into the slot with the gap facing<br />

away from the shaft, as shown in Figure 5-4. Push the<br />

shear key about 1/2-way into the worm gear. Do not push it<br />

all the way in.<br />

7. For 65DM pumps, proceed to the next section. For all other<br />

pump models, proceed to the final steps in Section 5.8.4.<br />

5.8.3 Pump Bearings<br />

Follow the step by step instructions in Section 5.8.1 Replacement<br />

Using Installation Tool, or in Section 5.8.2 Replacement Without<br />

Installation Tool. Then proceed with the instructions below.<br />

The 65DM pump has an outer bearing set not included in the<br />

other pumps. The set includes two thrust washers and one thrust<br />

bearing (see Figure 5-5 below).<br />

Note that the 65DM spacer is shaped differently from that of<br />

other pump models, and must be properly oriented during reinstallation,<br />

Figure 5-6.<br />

When performing shear key replacement on the 65DM pump, use<br />

care to keep the bearings in position, with the bearing between<br />

the two washers, while installing the spacer.<br />
