SHORT HTSTORY<br />

(THI) was started in 1949 to participate in the IGY. The station, moved to THI in 1962, was funded through the USC&GS until<br />

1967. During that period. the instruments used were a Hilne-Shaw modified. t =12 sec, and a Bosch-Omori, t =14 sec. Since 1955<br />

the station has also maintained two strong-motion instruments, t -1 sec. Expgrimental research-type instru~ents have been in use<br />

since 1967.<br />
