NED began with a vertical-component instrument in November 1970 at 101 Penny Hall. About a year later, tbe sensor was<br />

moved approximately 3 km away and telemeterI'd to the University. Telemetry equipment was converted to solar power and batteries<br />

in November 1974. The station was out of operation for several weeks in late summer-early fall 1974 due to lightening damage.<br />
