EK. DO, DUS !
Commands in Hindi have always been a
Waterloo for the non-Hindi speaking under trainees
at the Academy. The scenario worsens further in the
initial days, when there is a barrage of commands to
be followed/ executed in quick time under the eagle
eyes of the Gl. One such under trainee even went to
the extent of firmly adhering to a particular position
in the routine fallins and he had even memorized his
position count in the fall in to avoid the impending
"up-rifle" in the event of a mistake in calling out his
position. This arrangement went on fine till one day
the Gl decided to shuffle the rank and file and the
under trainee was displaced from his usual position.
The post shuffle 'ginti kar' was Ek, Do, Dus, Char and
five rounds 'up-rifle' for the shuffled under trainee!!.
QUICK NOTES
There was this officer who was notorious for his
sleeping habit in the class. His bench mates were really
tired of the daily ritual of waking him at the end of the
day. One day this ritual was discontinued and the
officer continued to be in deep slumber while the
entire class had secured for lunch. An instructor,
during his post lunch walk in the class corridor noticed
the officer in 'head-on-desk' position and decided to
verify his well being. On a pat from the instructor, the
officer looked up, saw the instructor's face looming
above and immediately started scribbling notes in his
ever open note book in the desk!!.
FOR THE UNINITIATED
The newly married Lieutenant's wife was
seething in anger on his drinking, after their
welcoming party by his course mate. Any amount of
convincing by the Lieutenant did not see any change
on her grouse that, while the course mate had
consumed only three dark coloured drinks, in small
quantity, that too diluted with soda, while he had two
full bottles of Beer!!
HEARD SOME WHERE .....
During an NBCD exercise, words of the instructor:-
"In case of fire-shout, shout, shout!"
Heard during a farewell speeh,
"Now we would like to give our love of token to the
guest - a gift"
Command while coming along side,
"Quarter deck, push the tug"!!
