I have always wondered as to how our Navy
manages the mammoth task of training everyone all
the time. This needs a special mention as in other
organisations an employee once trained continues
to pay back to the organisation for a long time, while
a few would need occasional refresher courses only
to adjust to the changes in the environment. When
most people hear "military training," the first thing they
think of is boot camp (at Naval Academy or at Chilka).
Actually the Military provides cutting-edge training
throughout an individual's time in the Service. Training
schools are geographically dispersed from Chilka to
Kochi to Valsura, and training is spreadover a few
weeks to a few months, depending on the complexity
of the subject matter.
Since joining the Navy I have been tasked at
different levels of job regularly and required
continuous training. First the technical courses, then
the submarine course, then specialization course,
then a course to qualify as PCO, then staff course and
then a COQC to qualify as a CO of a submarine. In fact
even to be an instructor one is trained in our Navy.
