<strong>Good</strong> <strong>Practices</strong> <strong>and</strong> InnovATIONS <strong>in</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Governance</strong><br />

<strong>2011</strong> United Nations <strong>Public</strong> Service Day<br />

The United Nations Department of Economic <strong>and</strong> Social<br />

Affairs facilitates the search for <strong>in</strong>novations <strong>in</strong><br />

governance <strong>and</strong> public adm<strong>in</strong>istration through the <strong>Public</strong><br />

Service Awards Programme. This year, 36 public<br />

organizations will be awarded with the most prestigious<br />

recognition of excellence <strong>in</strong> public service on 23 June,<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g the United Nations <strong>Public</strong> Service Day. The<br />

programme has five categories for which nom<strong>in</strong>ations of<br />

public <strong>in</strong>stitutions are submitted every year. The w<strong>in</strong>ners<br />

are from the follow<strong>in</strong>g countries: <strong>in</strong> 1st place <strong>and</strong> 2nd<br />

place, respectively:<br />

1st place w<strong>in</strong>ners: Brazil; Canada; Colombia; Egypt;<br />

India; Mexico; Oman; Pol<strong>and</strong>; Portugal; Republic of<br />

Korea; Slovakia; South Africa; Tanzania; <strong>and</strong> Thail<strong>and</strong>.<br />

2nd place w<strong>in</strong>ners: Dom<strong>in</strong>ica; Netherl<strong>and</strong>s; Oman; Peru;<br />

Portugal; Republic of Korea; Romania; Saudi Arabia;<br />

Thail<strong>and</strong>; Tunisia; <strong>and</strong> United Arab Emirates.<br />
