Summary<br />

Throughout nearly 400 years, Francophones have played a key role <strong>in</strong> Ontario’s overall<br />

development. Their contribution to the social, cultural, political <strong>and</strong> economic sectors<br />

of Ontario, the most populated prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>in</strong> Canada, has been recognized with the<br />

adoption of several acts, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the French-language Services Act of 1986.<br />

Over the past three years, the Office of Francophone Affairs of Ontario has <strong>in</strong>itiated<br />

a comprehensive strategy to raise knowledge <strong>and</strong> awareness of Francophone rights<br />

through the successful implementation of <strong>in</strong>itiatives, promot<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>creased accountability<br />

of m<strong>in</strong>istries regard<strong>in</strong>g the plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> delivery of quality French-language<br />

services.<br />
