"The Gold and Silver of Zadar", exhibits many works of art<br />
made from gold and precious stones, especially crosses (12)<br />
and valuable religious paintings (15).<br />
Zadar’s historical core is filled with various <strong>cultural</strong> monuments<br />
- walls, towers, churches, palaces, public buildings<br />
and majestic gates. Among the towers, the one that stands<br />
out in particular is the Captain’s Tower (11), and among the<br />
gates, the Land Gate (12), a masterpiece of the late Renaissance<br />
architect Michele Sammichelia. The Museum of Antique<br />
Glass is also located in Zadar, and it exhibits a unique<br />
set collection (14). Outside the walls of Zadar there are<br />
some modern architectural works, among which are a new<br />
sports complex with a basketball court and indoor swimming<br />
pool (17) and Greeting to the Sun (18) - an interesting<br />
visual installation.<br />
Since Zadar was the centre of Byzantine Dalmatia in the early<br />
Middle Ages, the main church centre around the <strong>Croatian</strong><br />
Kingdom was the city of NIN. Here, on a picturesque island<br />
(27), which can be entered through several old gates (22 &<br />
26), the settlement of the Illyrian Liburna tribe has existed<br />
since the 9th century BC. Nin became the headquarters of<br />
<strong>Croatian</strong> bishops, and an extremely valuable and very distinctive<br />
medieval church of the Holy Cross was built there<br />
in the 11th century (30), while the interior of the city was<br />
