CELEBRATING OUR 2008–09 SEASON!
CASA (Cultural After-School Adventures program)
For the fourth year in a row, Inside Broadway dispatched its accomplished teaching artists to 14 public schools in
Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx for the Cultural After School Adventures (Casa Program).
Under the direction of Inside Broadway’s Program Director, Katie McAllister, students worked with 2 teaching artists
for two months building a musical presentation. The theme this year was “If My Friends Could See Me Now” and was
based on the question “If you could be doing anything right now, what would it be?” The students learned Broadway songs,
choreography, acting and vocal skills and helped to form the script through their responses to the music and theme. Students also
helped to paint the backdrop for the performance with materials supplied by Inside Broadway. In addition to their work with the
teaching artists, the students also worked with a professional musician in preparation for the final presentation in front of their
school and community. At the end of the program each student received an Inside Broadway certificate of completion on stage
in front of their friends and family.
Each CASA school also received a performance of Inside Broadway’s production of “Smokey Joe’s Café” for the entire school
to enjoy. Each student attending the performance received a copy of our specially prepared Study Buddy and participated in our
Q&A after the show. Between the workshop program and the school tour this program served over 7,000 children.
