CELEBRATING OUR 2008–09 SEASON!
Inside Broadway Teaching Artist Residency Programs
in the Schools:
During the 2008-2009 season,
Inside Broadway provided
theatre education workshops
to over 40 schools in the five
boroughs. In addition to our flagship
program, “Build A Musical” in which
students learn the necessary skills such as
dance, voice and acting needed to present
their own musical, we also offer several
other theatre based workshops. In our
“Playwriting Now!” program students
worked under the direction of a dramaturg
to write their own plays and present them in
staged readings, our “Shakespeare Shake-Up”
taught students in grades 5 through 12
about the playwright, his plays, iambic
pentameter and the customs of the day.
Students enrolled in our “Folktales and
Dance Around the World” programs
learned about different cultures through
spoken word and the universal language
of dance. All of our programs meet the
New York City Department of Education’s
Blueprint for the Arts and the New York
State Standards for the Arts and are
tailored to meet each school’s specific
needs. As always, to ensure quality
instruction we employ theatre professionals
who possess degrees in theatre and
education. This year, our Teaching Artist
Residency Program reached over 7,500
students in grades K-12 citywide.
