Nominated large companies <strong>for</strong> the special award<br />
Symrise AG in Holzminden is one four largest global suppliers<br />
of fragrance <strong>and</strong> flavouring agents. Its portfolio covers<br />
fragrance <strong>and</strong> flavouring agents, aroma chemicals<br />
<strong>and</strong> functional ingredients. Its customers range from multinational<br />
company groups to regional manufacturers who<br />
use Symrise products to produce foodstuffs, drinks, food<br />
supplements, pharmaceutical preparations, perfumes, cosmetics,<br />
personal care products as well as cleaning agents<br />
<strong>and</strong> detergents. Symrise manufactures more than 30,000<br />
products worldwide <strong>and</strong> these are frequently based on natural<br />
raw materials such as vanilla, citrus fruits, flowers or<br />
plants. The company exports its products to more than 160<br />
countries <strong>and</strong> 2,100 of the company’s 5,000 employees work<br />
at the company’s head office in Holzminden. In 2010 the<br />
MDAX listed company generated revenue of € 1,572 billion.<br />
Also operating on a global basis is Solarlux Aluminium<br />
Systeme GmbH. The world’s leading system supplier of<br />
glass folding walls, balcony glazing <strong>and</strong> glass structures<br />
has its production base in Bissendorf <strong>and</strong> Osnabrück. Solarlux<br />
operates in 50 countries across the world <strong>and</strong> has<br />
numerous subsidiaries, sales offices <strong>and</strong> licensees. 500 of<br />
the 600 employees work in production at the head office of<br />
the family <strong>business</strong> in Bissendorf.<br />
Hugo Vogelsang Maschinenbau GmbH in Essen near Oldenburg<br />
operates on a global basis. It has developed a range<br />
of technologies around its core product, the elastomercoated<br />
rotary lobe pump. This includes the RotaCut wet<br />
macerator <strong>for</strong> coarse <strong>and</strong> fibrous matter in pipe systems.<br />
Vogelsang also develops <strong>and</strong> markets technology products<br />
<strong>and</strong> components <strong>for</strong> biogas plants. These include vacuum<br />
disposal systems <strong>for</strong> the environmentally-friendly disposal of<br />
waste water tanks in ships trains or buildings. Vogelsang is<br />
the inventor of close-to-the-ground liquid manure spreading<br />
technology using dribble bars. In 2010 480 employees generated<br />
revenue of around € 55 million. Products are exported<br />
to all European countries, important industrial nations<br />
<strong>and</strong> the emerging BRIC economies.<br />
