Shunting systems with hybrid power units
Shunting systems using innovative hybrid power transmission are being
presented by Vollert at InnoTrans 2012. Its DER 240 robot shunter has
been developed for HANSAPORT, Germany’s largest shipping terminal
for coal and ores and represents an ideally dimensioned solution for internal
shunting and loading operations. Electric motors form the heart
of the hybrid power transmission system. They contain their own power
plant in the form of a diesel-powered generator. This enables a tractive
force of 240 kilonewtons to be achieved with variable loading speeds
and a towing capacity of up to 6,000 tonnes. The propulsion unit and all
the technical components are monitored centrally and regulated by a radio
system. This offers a simple way of reading and adjusting operational
data, the speed and the GPS-controlled position. The reduced legal
requirements – BOA regulations – mean lower investment costs compared
with locomotives used on main lines. The reduced CO2 emissions
also benefit the environment. The solid and robust design helps to reduce
maintenance costs and downtimes.
Modular series of trams
The display by Vossloh at InnoTrans 2012 features its new modular series
of trams, the Tramlink, for the first time. The basic vehicle, for one
metre or standard gauge, 1,435 millimetres, is supplied with 750 volt
DC via an overhead power line and has a maximum speed of 70 kph.
A very flexible design is one of the main features of the Tramlink, permitting
customised configurations. Operators can connect five, seven
or nine multi-articulated cars. Customers also have a wide choice regarding
the external appearance, the design of the front of the vehicle,
the bodywork and the number of doors. With its 100 per cent low floor
design this vehicle has fully barrier-free entrances and interiors. The
bogies have been designed in such a way that 16 seats can be installed
over them. The exceptional chassis engineering provides for dynamic
operation and enables tight curves to be negotiated easily. The
water-cooled propulsion unit and elastic axle mountings make Vossloh
trams very quiet with substantially reduced vibration.
