Strukton Rail: POSS in the cloud
Strukton Rail is exhibiting POSS in the cloud at InnoTrans 2012. POSS
is a preventive maintenance and diagnostics system that has been
developed by Strukton. It provides remote monitoring of the condition
of systems and objects such as actuators,
train location and rail crossings.
POSS registers any deviations from the
norm and can identify such deviations
before they can cause faults or breakdowns.
The information can be accessed
over the internet and can be evaluated
anywhere and at any time. In other words:
the information is available in the POSS
cloud. POSS transfers rail maintenance
and fault messages from a reactive to a
proactive process. The end result: reduced
risks and fewer delays for travellers.
This exhibitor is also using this trade show to provide details about
long term projects, for example in Norway, Sweden and Denmark,
and about projects outside Europe.
Swiss Railways: Modernised double-deck commuter train
A comprehensively modernised double deck commuter train, the
DPZPlus, in service on the Zurich light rail network, is being displayed
by Swiss Railways SBB at InnoTrans 2012. This exhibit is
the first double deck train to be retrofitted with two new compact
air conditioning systems in each carriage, an adapted energy supply
and some new duct routes. Halfway through their life cycle
SBB is modernising its 115 double deck trains in its own workshops,
and is subsequently installing air conditioning, enabling
passengers to continue travelling in comfort for a further 20 years.
For SBB modernisation is an interesting alternative to the procurement
of new rolling stock. For vehicles designed in the 1990s
the technology was not sufficiently advanced to allow the kind of
work now being carried out on the DPZ, in particular in view of
weight restrictions and shortage of space. Among the major challenges
facing the modernisation project are the need to penetrate
the structure of the car body and the retrofitting with compact air
conditioning equipment.
