S Siemens Communications: On-board for high quality infotainment Media4Rail from Siemens is the on-board solution that enables railway operators to offer their passengers top-class infotainment on their own portable devices – such as laptops, handhelds, mobile phones or tablet PCs, with minimal upfront investment. Media4Rail offers passengers a variety of services such as music-on-demand, breaking news updates, current weather forecasts and real-time information about train connections and travel routes. QA4Rail is an end-to-end solution from Siemens for monitoring railway communication, voice and data recording (GSM-R and ECTS) and for rapid debugging, thereby ensuring the trouble-free functioning of the GSM-R and ETCS networks. By automatically activating an alarm before problems occur, QA4Rail can be relied upon to maintain the quality of the network service. Highly effective tools are available to enable user to identify problems with only a few mouse clicks. As a result reaction times are substantially reduced while at the same time helping to avoid serious incidents. Poland’s capital has ordered new underground trains from Siemens. Three cars that are on show for the first time at the fair are based on the Inspiro metro platform. Also making its debut is a mock-up of the new Avenio generation of trams, which will be going into service in The Hague. This exhibitor has developed the Vectron locomotive type as a future-proof platform concept for international freight, regional and intercity services. One of the main advantages of this locomotive is its flexibility. Siemens is presenting three new versions: a Vectron locomotive with mid-range performance characteristics, a diesel shunter concept and a dual traction solution. Also making its first appearance is the RIC sleeping car for Russian Rail- Siemens AG, Rail Systems Division, D-Berlin Outdoor display G1/G2 Ellen Schramke +49 (0)30-38622370 ellen.schramke@siemens.com www.siemens.com ways (RZD), which has been designed for cross-border services and for use throughout Central and Western Europe. S SRUBENA UNIA: Locking device to prevent bolts from working loose Tracksure’s locking device prevents unintentional nut loosening and offers infrastructure managers significant operational and cost benefits. Unlike other fasteners it is simple to maintain and does not require expensive capital equipment to install. The Tracksure locking device: consists of a modified bolt, produced under a manufacturing licence by SRUBENA UNIA S.A. It has a reverse thread added to the end, which accommodates both the original nut and the Tracksure locking nut. A locking nut is applied on to the reverse thread until it tightens against the original nut. A serrated steel locking cap then pushes down over both the original nut and the Tracksure nut, and is held in place with a spring clip. If the original nut starts to loosen, the locking nut tightens on the reverse thread with the locking cover combining both actions, ensuring a fail-safe bolt fixing.
