Multi-Contact Deutschland:
Designed for challenging applications
This exhibitor has designed its new, high performance Modular Power
Connector (MPC) for supplying power to the electrical drive train
of rail vehicles. Among its uses are to create contacts with transformers,
traction motors, rectifiers and batteries as well as for carrying
power between carriages. With ratings of 3.600 V and up to 700
A it is also suitable for many other industrial high current and high
voltage uses. The robust plug-in connector with IP66/IP67 protection
when plugged in is designed for demanding applications with
over 500 insertion and withdrawal cycles. A variety of different insulators
is available, all of them compatible, for various contact diameters
and cable cross sections of 10 to 240 mm. Up to 15 modules
can be combined. Optional coding prevents voltage reversal. Because
the MPC has been developed for use in extreme conditions
on the railways its features include vibration- and shock-proofing in
accordance with EN 61373 and corrosion-resistance (240 h salt spray
test) in accordance with EN 60068-2-11.
NEEL: Avoiding accidents with wild animals
The UOZ-1 is a device from the Polish company NEEL for protecting
against wild animals which, if allowed to wander onto railway
tracks, could cause accidents. It uses acoustic signals to
prevent animals from crossing the track shortly before a train arrives.
This new system from NEEL has been constantly monitored
to ensure its reliability. Compared with other forms of protection
available on the market the UOZ-1 offers a number of decisive advantages,
according to the exhibitor. Among these are its environmental
compatibility and the fact that it does not impact on any
biotope. The manufacturer also points out that the UOZ-1 achieves
its effect by activating the natural and genetically programmed
defence mechanisms of animals. The device generates special,
logically constructed warning tones that alert the animals
acoustically to the danger.
