MeteoGroup Deutschland:
Customised weather forecasts
It is particularly important in the winter to be aware of the onset of
bad weather as soon as possible and to be able to take preventive
measures. Exhibiting for the first time at InnoTrans, MeteoGroup provides
specific weather forecasts which are particularly relevant for
the operation and maintenance of rail networks. For example, in the
autumn predictions about leaf fall and adhesion problems, and about
the icing up of points and power lines in winter, as well as the depth
of snow and drifting, help to ensure the safety of passengers and
avoid delays. Railway operations and maintenance work can also
be affected in summer by thunderstorms, heavy rain, squalls and excessive
heat. Warnings of bad weather, forecasts of precipitation
and warnings about overheating of rails help to identify any weather-related
risks well in advance and enable countermeasures to
be undertaken. Data from MeteoGroup can be obtained from an easily
accessible online portal or incorporated as a data feed directly
into one’s own IT system.
Metsä Wood: Effective sound insulation in vehicles
The Metsä Wood range of sound insulation products includes three
new birch-plywood panels: Sonex, Sonex Light and Sonex Double.
The manufacturer reports that they provide effective sound insulation
for floors and partitions on buses and trains. Sonex is the name
given to the plywood panels made of a sandwich composite incorporating
the sound-absorbing material Isokon in order to improve the
insulating properties. They are a particularly effective means of reducing
engine noise on large vehicles. Sonex Light panels have the
same structure as Sonex panels but also have an additional layer
of cork and rubber, known as Amorim, for enhanced sound insulation.
Sonex Double combines the best properties of Sonex Light and
Sonex. Consequently Sonex Double provides very good sound insulation
at both high and low frequencies. With its Phoenix range of
products this Finnish company is introducing its new fire-inhibiting
birch-plywood panels, which have a flame-retardant aluminium surface
and also have good sound-insulating properties.
