Mechan: Control system for lifting devices
This British specialist for depot maintenance equipment, Mechan,
is presenting its new Micro-Link control system for lifting jacks at
this year’s InnoTrans. Based in Sheffield, this manufacturer has designed
a new control system that provides an ideal solution, both
technically and commercially, for the synchronised lifting of a wide
range of rail vehicles. The latest advances have enabled Mechan
to install the largest individual system of lifting jacks in the UK at the
Alstom transport and train maintenance centre near Manchester.
Custom software enables up to 44 lifting jacks to be operated simultaneously
without any compromises in flexibility. Mechan has earned
a reputation for such equipment. The lifting jacks can be linked
together and operated from any point using a single cable. The new
touch-screen panel provides continuous feedback during the maintenance
process.
Mercedes-Benz:
Shunting and snow clearance with the same vehicle
With a newly designed powertrain which, along with the torque converter
clutch for pulling heavy loads, also includes a crawler gear
for very slow operating speeds, in its configuration as a professional
shunter the Unimog U 400 can now be deployed with a centrifugal
snow clearance unit for use on road or rails. With a system for
the rapid installation and removal of the snow-clearing unit this dualpurpose
Unimog can also be converted very quickly for clearing snow
from level crossings or industrial roadways. The snow clearance unit
is powered by a mechanical, front-mounted power take-off which can
be factory-installed. Another world first on the Mercedes-Benz stand
at InnoTrans is the tramrail cleaning vehicle. With its newly developed
rail guidance system even the Unimog with 3,600 millimetre wheelbase
and larger body can manage much tighter curves.
