H HaCon: New trends in passenger information The software and consulting specialists from HaCon are presenting numerous new projects, features and functions in connection with the HAFAS timetable information system and the train planning system TPS at InnoTrans 2012. Among the facilities now available with HaCon is the option of restricting the search to destinations with a specified maximum travelling time from the starting point. Deutsche Bahn is the first German customer to incorporate this search function in the HAFAS-based timetable information service. Another feature found nowhere else in Germany, according to the exhibitor, is the live timetable for the Munich light railway system. This innovative real-time service displays the current position of all vehicles and is intended to set new standards in passenger information and mobile travel planning. HaCon has now created the largest integrated RBL system in Europe, HAFAS Smart ITCS. DB bus companies are currently equipping their fleets with this open system, which is not restricted to any specific platform, and the process will be completed by 2014. It is installed on the on-board computers or on an Android smart phone to provide reliable connections between buses and trains. In the hybrid and electric vehicle sector in particular it is important to ensure the effective cooling of batteries because their performance is directly related to their operating temperature. If the temperature is too high or too low this will have a negative impact. The battery coolers ensure that the batteries remain in the best possible temperature range. Thermal compensation is achieved through the use of efficient cooling panels, cooling them according to external conditions but also ensuring that they are maintained at the right temperature. In this way the ideal operating temperature range can be maintained. Two models are currently available: soldered and welded panels, which can be flexibly adjusted to the chassis. All models provide a homogenous temperature distribution with only a minimal loss of pressure in the coolant. H Hepworth Rail International: Compatible and functional As a leading supplier of Wiper & Wash systems to the global rail market English exhibitor Hepworth Rail International is making use of InnoTrans 2012 for the official introduction of its latest innovation. The fully rail compliant and functional Rain Sensor meets most customers’ requirements for the increased number of new driverless trains and provides clear view facilities for passengers. This development also provides significant benefits and improved operational safety for drivers of all new and retrofitted vehicles. This new development has been fully tested and approved and is currently on trial in Korea. It has also been proposed for further projects both in Europe and Australasia. The new railway sensor is part of the exhibitor’s continued drive towards development and innovation that meets its customers’ requirements and points the way forward. They include the railway security system, which can be used to record sound and images and offers enhanced security for trains. A choice of two high-performance on-board cameras is available. The data obtained with them can be used, for example, for the preventive maintenance of overhead power lines. The ability to provide very precise images is one of the many advantages of the system. As a result accidents can be analyzed in detail, for example where lines intersect, on crossings, platforms and along tracks. The architecture of the extremely precise DGPS receiver from Hitachi Zosen sets it apart from the usual DGPS devices, according to the manufacturer. The highly effective tracking system provides very precise navigation. This exhibitor is also displaying a high precision dual frequency RTK GPS receiver and a system for the mass transmission of IP data.
