Vehicle platform for three-axle shunting locomotives<br />

The H3 vehicle platform from ALSTOM is a more compact, new generation<br />

of three-axle shunting locomotives. In addition to a version<br />

with hybrid technology for shunting operations a twin generator version<br />

for use on longer routes is also available, as well as a powerful<br />

1,000 kilowatt single motor version for medium-distance<br />

routes. The distinctive features of this platform<br />

are its three axles, a speed in excess of 100<br />

km/h, a 60 meter curve radius and start-up tractive<br />

force of 240 kilonewtons. In a combined fleet<br />

these vehicles can be used without any problems<br />

in dual traction. The hybrid locomotive achieves a<br />

maximum output of 700 kilowatts with a 350 kilowatt<br />

diesel generator, the additional output coming from<br />

large batteries which are recharged by the generator<br />

in phases with a reduced load. When operating<br />

on battery power the locomotive does not produce any exhaust emissions<br />

and both noise levels and vibration are kept to a minimum. According<br />

to the manufacturer this is a unique feature and helps to protect<br />

personnel when operating in tunnels or close to buildings.<br />

Extremely flat design<br />

For the first time the „OmniPlanar TOP 230 AMR“ series of train radio<br />

antennas combine the technique of analogue antenna 2m band radio<br />

systems and digital communication systems, for example for Tetra<br />

/ GSM / UMTS / GPS / WLAN. This allows shared use of different<br />

radio systems on a single antenna with an extremely slim design and<br />

an antenna height of just 140mm. According to the manufacturer this<br />

provides one of the flattest 2m band antennas on the public transport<br />

market. Based on the selective coupling of the respective frequency<br />

range through high quality connectors of the N-type series, the costintensive<br />

splitters normally required for broadband antennas used on<br />

railways can be dispensed with. This selective coupling improves the<br />

effectiveness of the individual bands compared with conventional multiband<br />

broadband concepts with only a single connection. A super-flat<br />

2m band antenna with a design height of only 60mm is being introduced<br />

at <strong>InnoTrans</strong> 2012.<br />
