Preparing for Your Balik Kampung Drive<br />

With CNY round the corner, it’s again time to plan for<br />

the long trip back to our hometowns. As for those not<br />

celebrating this festive occasion, the holidays is also a<br />

great opportunity to visit places to let down our hair<br />

and recharge ourselves. But before setting off, there are a<br />

couple of checks and preparations for the vehicle.<br />

1. Vital fluids<br />

This includes the engine oil, transmission oil, brake oil,<br />

radiator coolant, spare tank coolant, battery fluid and<br />

windscreen washer fluid. Top up if they are insufficient<br />

and fix any leaks in the system.<br />

2. Service your vehicle if the next service<br />

interval is near<br />

Not only will this minimize chances of premature<br />

failure of the parts due, it is also possible for the service<br />

personnel to inspect the overall condition of your vehicle.<br />

Apart from the regular mechanics and authorized service<br />

centers, Puspakom has also joined the bandwagon by<br />

offering free inspection prior to the holidays.<br />

3. Lights and electrics<br />

If you have a burnt bulb that’s yet to be replaced, now is<br />

the time to get it done. In fact, it is a good idea to spare a<br />

headlamp, signal and rear lamp bulb especially when one<br />

is not familiar with the destination area.<br />

4. Windshield Wipers<br />

Each wipe should be clean with minimal amount of<br />

leftover water droplets. Do consider cleaning them from<br />

grime and oil regularly.<br />

5. Check all wheels, the spare and tire<br />

replacement tools<br />

Ensure air pressure is sufficient as a deflated tire will not<br />

only sacrifice grip but also affect fuel consumption due<br />

to increased rolling resistance. Have the wheels balanced<br />

and aligned if a wobbling or straying steering is felt.<br />

6. Have a copy of your vehicle insurance<br />

policy cover<br />

This was advised by a friend handling vehicle damage<br />

claims. If the inevitable really happens, this cover could help<br />

clear a lot of doubts and provide important information.<br />

7. Get enough rest prior to the drive<br />

Insufficient rest can easily lead to of loss of concentration.<br />

Taking turns to drive along the way is also an option<br />

particularly on highways with simple road signs and<br />

minimal distractions.<br />

1. Berjalan<br />

Jika cuaca elok, berjalan di sekitar rumah sambil lihat<br />

pemandangan sekeliling memang menyeronokkan. Jika<br />

cuaca tidak mengizinkan, cuba berjalan naik turun tangga<br />

beberapa kali (pada masa sama boleh angkat turun barang<br />

lagi). Ini boleh menguatkan kaki dan lutut. Jika tiada tangga?<br />

Berjalan sahaja keliling dalam rumah, walaupun kurang<br />

seronok, tetapi masih berkesan<br />

2. Mood uplifting<br />

Ini paling seronok, boleh ingat kembali memori zaman<br />

kanak-kanak. Lagipun siapa yang tidak pernah main lompat<br />

bintang kan? <strong>Jan</strong>gan pelik, jumping jack adalah salah satu<br />

senaman kardio yang hebat, juga boleh jadi warm up juga.<br />

3. Pushup/ pumping<br />

Senaman paling tidak disukai kan? Walaupun nampak susah, tetapi pushup boleh juga dilakukan dengan cara mudah. Tidak perlu<br />

cuba jadi macam atlet siap pushup guna sebelah tangan, buat sebagaimana yang anda mampu. Buat dengan lutut, berbanding<br />

luruskan kaki. Buat menegak menghadap dinding. Sesuai untuk meningkatkan kekuatan tangan, juga menguatkan bahagian sekitar<br />

dada.<br />

4. Leg lifts/ apungan kaki<br />

Kuatkan kaki. Jika rasa susah untuk apungkan kaki, bengkokkan kaki sedikit.<br />

5. Crunches/ tekan tubi<br />

Untuk kekuatan abdomen/ perut. Tidak perlu risau jika kepala tidak dapat naik habis, asalkan dapat naik/bangun dan anda dapat<br />

rasa tekanan pada bahagian perut, ini dah cukup bagus.<br />

6. Jogging in place/ joging setempat<br />

Hebat untuk jantung. Boleh joging semasa menonton tv ataupun mendengar muzik. Jika ada pun alatan yang perlu, hanyalah<br />

sepasang kasut untuk mengelakkan kaki melecet/ tekanan pada kaki. 7. Squats Berkesan untuk kaki dan punggung. Jika rasa susah,<br />

juga boleh dilakukan dengan memegang hujung kerusi. Asalkan boleh buat berulang beberapa kali, dah cukup bagus untuk badan.<br />

7. Angkat Berat<br />

Tidak perlu pergi kedai beli alat sukan mahal beli besi angkat berat mahupun dumbel. Guna sahaja apa-apa yang ada di rumah.<br />

Mulakan mengangkat barang-barang ringan, seperti setin air pepsi, sebelum pergi kepada barang yang lebih berat, sebekas (ada<br />

pemegang) pencuci lantai cecair saiz besar.<br />

8. Menari<br />

Senaman yang menyeronokkan. Bahkan boleh meningkatkan emosi/ semangat juga.<br />

9. Squats<br />

Berkesan untuk kaki dan punggung. Jika rasa susah, juga boleh dilakukan dengan memegang hujung kerusi. Asalkan boleh buat<br />

berulang beberapa kali, dah cukup bagus untuk badan.<br />

10. Step exercises/ Berjalan setempat<br />

Senaman naik turun satu anak tangga. Boleh kuatkan otot kaki. Pastikan jangan tergelincir semasa melakukan senanam ini. Jika rasa<br />

kurang seronok, buatlah apa-apa gaya aerobik juga, asalkan naik turun terjadi.<br />
