Verdi, Giuseppe. - Musicista
(Roncole, Busseto, 10 ottobre
1813 - Milano 27 gennaio 1901).
Massimo operista italiano dell'Ottocento,
tra i più celebrati di tutti i
tempi, V. musicò 28 opere, alle
quali vanno aggiunti cinque rimaneggiamenti.
In esse la magistrale
padronanza dei mezzi tecnici e
drammatici è messa al servizio
dell'espressione di accese passioni
romantiche. Tra i suoi capolavori:
Rigoletto (1851), Il Trovatore
(1853), La Traviata (1853), in cui
V., ormai ricco e affermato, non
ebbe paura di affrontare temi anticonvenzionali
o addirittura scabrosi,
con insuperabile talento drammatico
e grande capacità di introspezione
psicologica. Sebbene
colpite dalla censura e inizialmente
accolte negativamente dal pubblico,
le tre opere raggiunsero presto
grandissima popolarità; le parallele
vicende politiche del Risorgimento
che avrebbero portato all'unità
d'Italia aumentarono inoltre il prestigio
di Verdi come musicista nazionale.
L’infanzia
Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco
nasce a Roncole di Busseto, nel
Ducato di Parma, il 10 ottobre
1813 da Luigia Uttini, filatrice, e
Carlo Verdi, oste.
Carlo proviene da una famiglia di
agricoltori piacentini, dopo aver
messo da parte un po' di denaro
apre una modesta osteria alle Roncole,
la cui gestione alterna al lavoro
dei campi.
School President Elections
Just like every year, the student
representatives’ Election Day has been
held. All six groups showed their inspiring
motivation to become school presidents. In
the end, the charismatic boys, Raguel Roumer
and Felix Teer from the S6 French won.
This election was different from the other
years, not only because the time the teams
had to present their plans for the presidency
had been reduced, but also because this
must have been the quietest the audience
has ever been!
The election started like those of
previous years: a noisy aula, students talking
or shouting to each other, trying to find
a good place to sit and watch the presentations.
Then almost everyone went silent,
there was just a little inevitable chit-chatting
in the background. During the presentations,
all groups seemed to have the same
amount of support from the students, until
Raguel and Felix presented: they suggested
that the school was boring in terms of extracurricular
activities and therefore proposed
free parkour, basketball and football training.
This proposal swept through the crowd
of students who were very keen on having
presidents that are really enthusiastic about
sports! It was also suggested that we have
more parties and use the green area behind
the aula. And of course, it wouldn’t have
been a proper election if there hadn’t been
the usual attempt at corruption through the
use of free candy, and on this note, the
Election Day finished.
So far, the newly elected Presidents
have already repainted the S6/S7 Common
Room, and have helped Mr Faglain with a
singing tournament titled “Ze Voïss”, which
has the intention of bringing the voice of
French music artists to the ESF.

Rencontre avec notre nouveau Président !
Le 20 septembre dernier, l’évènement de la
rentrée, l’élection du président et du viceprésident
de l’école, s’est déroulé dans l’excitation
générale. Six équipes se présentaient
et après une semaine de campagne électorale
où posters et flyers ont fleuri sur tous
les murs de l’école, le vote a enfin eu lieu.
Raguel et Felix sont sortis vainqueurs de la
compétition, et pour la première fois depuis
l’ouverture de l’ ESF, des élèves de la section
française ont été élus. Raguel, avec sa gentillesse
et sa bonne humeur habituelles, a accepté
de répondre à mes questions, et de
nous raconter ses premiers pas comme président
des élèves de l’école.
Faute d’emplois du temps compatibles,
l’interview se déroule par téléphone.
Question : Revenons d’abord sur l’élection.
Peux tu nous parler de la campagne, de l’esprit
dans lequel vous vous êtes engagés Felix
et toi dans cette aventure ?
Raguel : Au début, nous avons beaucoup
improvisé. Tout est allé si rapidement. Nous
nous sommes engagés avec l’idée de ne pas
nous faire trop de soucis et de voir comment
les choses allaient tourner. Nous ne voulions
pas promettre n’importe quoi mais plutôt
nous focaliser sur des thèmes qui nous intéressent
vraiment comme le parcours ou l’esprit
de communauté. Nous pensons qu’il n’y
a pas suffisamment de connexions entre les
sections et les élèves en général. Moi même,
je n’ai pas beaucoup d’activités avec les
autres élèves de l’école. Nous voudrions
changer cela, organiser plus d’activités intersections,
apporter un peu plus de « fun ».

Was war der schlimmste Unfall eines
Schülers?
Ich bin mit einer Klasse schwimmen gegangen
und ein Junge hat mir gesagt das
er gut schwimmen kann, was sich aber im
Schwimmbad änderte sich die Situation,
den als die Klasse anfing zu schwimmen
fing der Junge an zu strampeln, daraufhin
sprang ich ins Wasser und rettete den
Jungen erfolgreich.

Das Ende der „Bank für die Armen“
Die Mutter aller Mikrofinanzierungsbanken
steht im Visier der bengalischen Regierung.
Unabhängigkeit und Verpflichtungen der
„Bank für die Armen“ sind in Gefahr. Eine
grundlose Verstaatlichung droht. Einflussreiche
Politiker und Unternehmer wie
Richard Branson melden sich wieder zu
Wort.
Er hat Zigtausenden in Bangladesch einen
Ausweg aus lebenslanger Armut und Hunger
eröffnet: Muhammad Yunus half armen
Familien, insbesondere Frauen, sich mit
kleinsten Krediten eine bescheidene Existenz
aufzubauen. Dafür hatte der Gründer
der Grameen Bank 2006 den Friedensnobelpreis
erhalten. Das Modell kämpft auch
in Bangladeschs Nachbarländern, Teilen
Afrikas und Südamerikas gegen Armut.
Jetzt aber ist sein Lebenswerk bedroht –
von der Regierung des Landes, dem er so
viel geholfen hat.
Die bengalische Premierministerin Sheikl
Hasina Wajed rief 2011 ein Gremium zur
Kontrolle der Grameen Bank ins Leben.
Dieses plant die Bank zu verstaatlichen
und in 19 kleine Kreditgeber zu spalten, so
die New York Times am 6. August 2013.
Nachdem 2011 Gründer und Friedens-
Nobelpreisträger Muhammad Yunus als
Vorstandsvorsitzender entfernt wurde, will
die Regierung die vollständige Kontrolle
über die Bank und ihre Aktivitäten. Die
einst unabhängige Bank steht so vor dem

Die Bestürzung über die Geschehnisse ist
seit der Bekanntgabe des Vorhabens weltweit
sehr groß. Die Nachrichtenagentur
Bloomberg erhielt Mitte August einen Brief
mit vierzig Unterschriften, der den internationalen
Druck auf Bangladeshs Regierungschefin
Wajed als Initiatorin des Gremiums
erhöhte. Vierzig einflussreiche Unternehmer
und Amtsträger unterschrieben diesen
Brief. Kenny Kennedy, Präsident des Robert
F. Kennedy Center for Justice and
Human Rights, sagt, dass diese Arbeit nur
dank der Leitung der jetzigen Vorstandsmitglieder
und der Unabhängigkeit der Bank
möglich sei. Durch die geplante Neubesetzung
des Vorstandes wäre diese Unabhängigkeit
nicht mehr gegeben. Dies ist nicht
der erste Brief an Wajed. Bereits 2011
gingen Briefe mit ähnlichen Anliegen bei ihr
ein, wurden aber weitestgehend ignoriert.
Im Januar 2011 waren erstmals Vorwürfe
gegen Yunus laut geworden. Die Bank habe
unter seiner Leitung Hilfsgelder der norwegischen
Regierung veruntreut, so die bengalische
Regierungschefin. Doch Untersuchungen
der bengalischen Staatsanwaltschaft
und der Norweger konnten
„keinerlei Unregelmäßigkeiten“ feststellen.
Trotz allem musste Yunus seinen Posten
verlassen. Offiziell, weil er die Pensionsgrenze
von sechzig Jahren bereits um zehn
Jahre überschritten hatte. Tatsächlich
stand er womöglich der geplanten Verstaatlichung
zu sehr im Wege. Die Spannungen
zwischen Yunus und Wajed entstanden, als
Yunus 2007, zum Unmut von Wajed, eine
kurze politische Karriere startete, die aber
bald wieder endete

Ich empfehle das Buch Hummel Dumm von
Tommy Jaud. Das Buch erzählt von zwei
Touristen, die eine zweiwöchige Tour mit
neun anderen Urlaubern durch die Namib-
Wüste machen. Dabei passieren ihnen lauter
lustige Sachen.
Die beiden Touristen freuen sich schon auf
ihre neue Wohnung in Deutschland, die sie

plain and only the S1/S2/S3 common room
has computers so I am hoping that this can
be changed but otherwise I mainly want
some really cool parties!

Andrea, Ecole Européenne de Francfort, section francaise, promotion 2008
Si l’on m’avait dit, lorsque j’étais
à l’école européenne, qu’à 24 ans j’aurais
terminé mes études et je serais pleinement
intégrée au monde du travail, je
pense que j’aurais éclaté de rire. Mais je
voudrais tout d’abord me présenter. Je
m’appelle Andrea, j’ai 24 ans et je suis
sortie de l’école européenne en 2008. Je
suis récemment rentrée de Londres vers
Francfort, la ville où j’ai passé mon enfance,
et je travaille actuellement comme
chef d’équipe du département Media
Research de Cision Germany GmbH, société
de Medias.´
Entrée à l’Ecole Européenne en
2004, en S4, j’ai fait partie des élèves qui
ont inauguré l’école secondaire. A ce moment
là, seul le bâtiment principal existait.
Il était occupé par l’école primaire et le
secondaire – nous étions alors peu nombreux
- avait cours dans des containers
installés près du terrain de sport.
Durant les quatre années que
j’ai passées à l’école, j’ai fréquenté la
section française avec anglais en L2.
Ce choix a été déterminant pour
la suite de mes études puisqu’il m’a permis,
après le baccalauréat, d’intégrer l’université
de Kingston près de Londres pour
suivre un cursus de journalisme et médias.
Après trois années d’études et un
Bachelor en poche, j’ai décidé de poursuivre
mon rêve de devenir journaliste.
Pendant l’été qui a suivi mes examens, j’ai
trouvé un stage lié à l’industrie du divertissement.
Pendant trois mois j’ai non seulement
eu la chance de pouvoir écrire des
articles sur l’actualité des célébrités et sur
des sorties de films mais j’ai également eu
l’opportunité d’assister à des premières et
des avant-premières de films. A la fin de
ce stage, j’ai obtenu un contrat à durée
indéterminée chez Gorkana, une agence
de media britannique. Mon trilinguisme
Anglais, Français, Allemand a été un élément
déterminant pour le développement
de ma carrière. Je suis restée un an et
demi chez Gorkana comme European
Media Researcher au service de nos
clients français et allemands.
C’est en mars 2013, après cinq
années passées à Londres, que j’ai décidé
de rentrer en Allemagne. Cela fait maintenant
trois mois que je travaille pour Cision,
une agence de medias qui met en relation
des professionnels des relations publiques
avec des journalistes
Grâce au logiciel CisionPoint,
banque de données journalistiques, les
services de relation publiques de . nos
clients peuvent diffuser des communiqués
de presse et assurer la surveillance et
l’analyse des médias
Mon expérience britannique m’a permis
d’accéder directement à un poste de responsabilités.
A la tête d’une équipe de
cinq personnes, je supervise notre service
Recherches, et en tant que Research Supervisor,
je suis également responsable de
l’entretien de notre base de données. Je
dois enfin m’assurer de la bonne satisfaction
de nos clients vis-à-vis de nos services.
Je travaille donc en étroite collaboration
avec notre service clients et notre
service des ventes.
Je pense que l’Ecole Européenne
m’a permis d’acquérir non seulement des
compétences académiques et linguistiques
mais également une ouverture d’esprit
qui m’a beaucoup aidée dans le déroulement
de ma carrière.

Q. : Passons maintenant au sujet qui fascine
beaucoup d’élèves : le parcours. (Pour ceux qui
l’ignoreraient, le parcours est un sport qui combine
acrobatie et gymnastique pour passer
différentes sortes d’obstacles. A un certain
niveau, il exige des qualités athlétiques exceptionnelles.
Raguel est un expert du parcours)
R. : Nous avons déjà beaucoup travaillé sur ce
sujet. Nous voulons quelque chose de bien
structuré. Nous pensions avoir trouvé un créneau
de deux heures le mardi dans la salle de
sport mais nous venons d’apprendre qu’il est
finalement réservé aux profs de l’école. Nous
essayons donc de trouver un nouveau créneau,
probablement le mercredi ou le jeudi. Nous
espérons pouvoir commencer après les vacances
d’automne.
Q. : Je sais que tu as déjà assisté à un Conseil
des écoles européennes à Bruxelles. Peux tu
nous éclairer sur les activités du Conseil ?
R. : C’est en fait un comité où toutes les écoles
européennes se retrouvent pour débattre sur
des sujets qui nous concernent tous. En tant
que représentants de l’Ecole de Francfort, nous
avons parlé du manque de profs pour certaines
matières.
Il a aussi été question d’un projet de modification
du système d’options en S5. Ce projet prévoit
un rapprochement avec le système français
et ses différentes sections (littéraire, économique
et scientifique). Le choix se limiterait à
ces trois cadres, avec des options obligatoires
correspondantes. Nous avons tous voté contre
car nous perdrions de cette façon la possibilité
de choisir nos options librement en mixant par
exemple des matières scientifiques avec des
matières littéraires. Nous pensons que le choix
très ouvert des options est un des grands avantages
du système européen et nous voudrions
le conserver.
L’autre grand sujet du comite auquel j’ai participé
a été l’Europarty. Nous avons parlé des problèmes
de ces dernières années et de la façon
de les éviter. Il a même été question de la supprimer
totalement mais une seule école a voté
en faveur de la suppression. L’Europarty est
une vraie tradition que beaucoup d’élèves apprécient,
mais son image est de pire en pire au
fil des années. Certains ont proposé de modifier
le nom pour restaurer l’image. Le plus important
reste quand même l’encadrement, et cela
doit commencer dans le bus. Il faut que nous
trouvions le moyen d’empêcher certains élèves
de commencer à consommer de l’alcool pendant
le trajet, et de continuer pendant la partie
parce que nous savons tous que le résultat est
catastrophique. Il a été question de dresser une
« black list » des élèves qui ont déjà eu ce genre
de problèmes et de renforcer la surveillance
dans les bus pour les autres. En ce qui concerne
la partie elle-même, nous voudrions limiter
la vente d’alcool sur place. De cette façon,
nous espérons améliorer l’ambiance générale
et éviter les problèmes des années précédentes.

Mercoledì, alle 9 del mattino l’orchestra e il coro della nostra
scuola sono partiti diretti a Lussemburgo con lo scopo di visitare
un’ altra scuola europea come la nostra e organizzare un concerto
con la loro orchestra e il loro coro. La gita è stata organizzata
dal professore di musica nonché direttore di orchestra e coro
della nostra scuola, il signor Mohr. Ad accompagnare gli studenti
erano presenti i professori Kluppelholz, Scarratt e McCartan, tra
cui i primi due citati erano anche da sostegno per l’orchestra.
La gita, che ha avuto come giorno di rientro il sabato seguente, è
stata anche l’occasione per visitare la città e non solo. Le meta
turistica più interessante è stata “La Filarmonica di Lussemburgo”,
struttura aperta nel 2005 a “Place de l'Europe” è un opera
architettonica vera e propria. L’architetto Christian de Portzamparc
progettando l’edificio l’ha immaginato in mezzo ad un bosco
da oltrepassare prima di poter accedere alla filarmonica. Questo
spiega i pilastri che circondano l’edificio, inoltre non fanno passare
troppa luce, ma non rendono nemmeno troppo buio l’interno
della struttura.
Gran parte della gita, però, è stata trascorsa dagli studenti provando
i pezzi da suonare per il concerto dedicato all’unità tedesca.
Giovedì 3, oltre al concerto che ha avuto molto successo, gli
studenti hanno visitato la piscina al chiuso chiamata ‚Les Thermes’.
Quindi la gita ha avuto per i ragazzi anche un aspetto divertente,
infatti è stata anche organizzata una serata in cui si giocava
a bowling e anche in centro a Lussemburgo gli studenti avevano
spesso tempo libero da trascorrere facendo shopping e mangiando
specialità locali.
L’accoglienza alla Scuola Europea di Lussemburgo II è stata molto
calorosa ed è stata inoltre organizzata una visita nel complesso,
per i ragazzi è stata molto interessante dato che rispetto alla
nostra scuola è cinque volte più grande e quindi anche più attrezzata.
Ciò che ha sorpreso molto gli studenti è stata la piscina
interna alla scuola. Ma l’esperienza migliore è stata quella di
conoscere gli studenti della loro scuola e suonare e cantare con
loro. Questo momento condiviso ha aumentato la vicinanza tra le
nostre scuole europee.

Nel 1851 è finalmente
pronta la villa di Sant’Agata,
a Villanova d’Arda,
dove Verdi e e la moglie
Giuseppina si trasferiscono
definitivamente: una
dimora circondata da un
grande parco, curato da
Verdi stesso.
In questi anni, nella calma
della pianura padana,
Verdi scrive la trilogia popolare:
Rigoletto (1851), Il
Trovatore (1853), e La
Traviata (1853). Ottiene
un successo clamoroso.
Va ricordato specialmente
il Nabucco. L’impresario
della Scala, Bartolomeo
Merelli, gli fa leggere il
libretto. In pochissimo
tempo l’opera è pronta ed
è trionfo (1842). Il coro del
Nabucco ha un successo
popolare strepitoso tanto
da venir cantato e suonato
perfino per le strade.

Nella piccola Casa Natale,
l’antica osteria-stazione di
posta dove Giuseppe Verdi
è nato, di fronte alla chiesa
che l’ha visto prima
chierichetto, poi organista,
muovere i primi passi di
musicista. Qui avrà inizio il
10 ottobre, alle 8.30, la
festa di Buon Compleanno
del Maestro che risuonerà
in tutto il mondo. Il primo
appuntamento è con la
presentazione del francobollo
Giuseppe Verdi
emesso da Poste Italiane
in occasione del 200°
anniversario della nascita.

LA DIFFICOLTÀ DEL TRASFERIR-
MENTO ALLA SCUOLA EUROPEA
Per chi ha sempre frequentato la
scuola pubblica italiana trasferirsi
alla Scuola Europea di Francoforte
può disorientare non poco. Infatti ci
sono molte differenza tra i due sistemi
scolastici ma prima di tutto
mancano molte delle piccole cose
che caratterizzano le scuole del
nostro Paese. Per esempio il fatto di
vedere le stesse persone, per cinque
ore al giorno, tutti i gironi, il che
trasforma la classe in una seconda
famiglia. Stare sempre nella stessa
aula, tra quei muri bianchi e verdi
pieni di ricordi. Le ingenti testimonianze
scritte,se così vogliamo chiamarle,
lasciate da chi é stato nello
stesso banco o le stesse perle di
saggezza, in svariati colori, sulle
porte dei bagni. I bidelli, parte integrante
della vita scolastica attraverso
le lamentele riguardanti principalmente
l'inciviltà dei ragazzi, gli
acari o la carta igienica che il
"Governo non gli manda mai". I professori
che starnutiscono sempre e
lanciano gessi a chi é in altre faccende
affaccendato.
Anche la nostra scuola ha, però,
delle caratteristiche che la rendono
unica: le corse nei cinque minuti tra
un'ora e l'altra per raggiungere la
classe in tempo. I contenuti degli
ormai ribattezzati "locker" con un
proprietario disordinato che si
schiantano a terra producendo un
rumore inconfondibile. Gente che
non trova la classe perché ha perso
l'orario nelle prime settimane e gente
che continua a non trovarlo a
giugno. I securityman che sembrano
lavorare in una banca svizzera più
che in una scuola. Ogni scuola ha le
sue particolarità, le piccole cose che
la differenziano da tutte le altre ed é
giusto che sia così. Ma ci sono anche
cose che non cambieranno mai,
che in una scuola ci saranno sempre
come gli sbadigli alla prima ora,
le occhiaie dei prof, i brividi prima di
un test o lo sguardo fisso sull'orologio
gli ultimi cinque minuti di lezione.
Ci sono cose come queste che
fanno parte della definizione di
scuola, di quel tanto amato quanto
odiato luogo magico nel quale, da
quando ha cominciato ad esistere,
generazioni di ragazzi sono stati
costretti a recarsi ma in cui spesso
hanno respirato un' aria nuova di
crescita e libertà.

S1: NOWA SZKOLA, NOWA ZYCIE ESTE ANO NA FEIRA DE
S1: NEW SCHOOL, NEW LIFE
LIVRO DE FRANKFURT
We want to show what the first days in
secondary look and feel like. We found
the five biggest changes in our everyday
lives: being the youngest, our new
responsibilities, number of rooms,
marks and the number of teachers.
Our optimistic conclusion is: don't give
up!
Jeszcze wczoraj byliśmy w P5, a
dziś się okazuje, że już prawie miesiąc
spędziliśmy w S1. Przyzwyczailiśmy się i nie
dziwi nas wchodzenie do budynku szkoły
średniej. A jednak codziennie odkrywamy
coś nowego, zaskakującego i myślimy “ a mi
się wydawało, że już wszystko wiedziałam!”
Przyjemnie być najstarszym… W
P5 byliśmy przykładem dla wszystkich innych
klas i to my “rządziliśmy” szkołą. Teraz
role się odmieniły. Jesteśmy najmłodszymi i
czasami nie jest to takie przyjemne. Ktoś
nas złośliwie zaczepia lub odwrotnie,
zdarzają się mili starszacy, pomagający w
trudnych sytuacjach.
Zmieniły się również nasze przyzwyczajenia.
Przychodzimy do domu i nie wypoczywamy,
tylko bierzemy się do pracy. Gdy zapomnimy
zrobić pracę domową, jesteśmy za to odpowiedzialni.
Rodzice są informowani i zaczynają
się kłopoty. Albo, załóżmy, spóźniłeś
się trzy razy, wtedy też kolejne ostrzeżenie.
Ciągle trzeba pamietać o wszystkim, a jeśli
nie, mejle jakby same się piszą.
W tym roku inaczej wyglada nasze zycie
klasowe. W P5 mieliśmy tylko trzy klasy, a
teraz około dwudziestu! Mamy mało
czasu na przejście z jednego pomieszczenia
do drugiego, a przecież jeszcze
po drodze musimy wyjąć książki i zeszyty z
szafki. Czasem biegamy z góry na dół, ale
mam nadzieję, że wkrótce przyzwyczaimy
się do tego.
Poza tym wszystko,co robimy, jest oceniane.
Liczy się szybkość, dokładność, punktualność,
stosunek do pracy… Życie na cenzurowanym
jest ciężkie, zawsze trzeba się wysilać.
Często piszemy testy, człowiek sam
już nie wie, czy najpierw ma się uczyć do
historii czy do fizyki. Nauczyciele oczekują
wzorowego zachowania i najlepszych wyników.
Ponadto, uczy nas wielu różnych
nauczycieli. Czasami trudno zapamiętać, u
którego bardziej liczy się ładna prezentacja,
a u którego po prostu trzeba mieć dobre wyniki
z testów. Jednych lubimy bardziej, innych
mniej… Uczniowie też mają swoich faworytów,
ale generalnie uczą się tolerancji.
Podsumowując,zmiana szkoly podstawowej
na szkole srednia, to coś więcej
niż zmiana nazwy czy budynku. To zmiana
stylu życia. Teraz możemy albo wrócić do
naszych mam z rzewnymi łzami prosząc o
powrót do podstawówki albo dać z siebie
wszystko i wyciągnąć jeszcze więcej życiowych
doświadczeń z sytuacji, w której się
znależliśmy.

Este ano, na Feira do Livro de
Frankfurt, o país convidado de honra
foi o Brasil, “um país cheio de vozes”,
que teve direito a um pavilhão e a
vários eventos exclusivos com o fim de
promover e propagar a literatura
lusófona. A feira realizou-se entre os
dias 9 e 13 de outubro, sendo os
primeiros três dedicados aos
vendedores, estudantes e educadores,
enquanto no fim de semana foi
possível a entrada a qualquer visitante.
A visita à feira este ano foi uma
excelente experiência para nós falantes
de Língua Portuguesa, pois poderemos
ter de esperar muito tempo até que
haja novamente outro país lusófono
homenageado e, potencialmente, os
visitantes poderão ter uma boa história
para contar aos seus netos.

αυτον τον υπεροχο τοπο, δινουν μια πρωτογνωρη αισθηση ηρεμιας και χαλαρωσης . Η Αλοννησος ειναι ο ιδανικος προορισμος για
οσους αγαπουν το ψαρεμα,τη φυση,τη γαληνια και απεραντη θαλασσα καθως και την επισκεψη στο μεγαλυτερο θαλασσιο παρκο της
Ελλαδας. Στο Εθνικο Θαλασσιο Παρκο Αλοννησου υπαρχουν εξαιρετικοι μεσογεικοι βιοτοποι με εκατονταδες ειδη φυτων και ζωων
οπως και σημαντικα αρχαιολογικα μνημεια. Αξιζει να αναφερθει πως στο παρκο λειτουργει κεντρο περιθαλψης μεσογιεακης φωκιας
οπου ειδικευεται στη φιλοξενεια και προστατευση των μεσογειακων αυτων πλασματων,που ειναι ειδη προς εξαφανιση.

SWALS- what does it mean?
SWALS stands for students without a language
section- in other words, pupils who
do not have English, French, German or
Italian as their L1. We are a minority, but
nevertheless an important part of the
school! Out of the impressive 1,251 students
in our entire school, 266 of us are
SWALS. The two pie charts on the right
demonstrate the distribution of SWALS in
the different parts of the school
(kindergarten, primary and secondary) as
well as what L1s there are in our school
and how many students study these languages.

Ze Voïss: Why a French
song contest at the ESF?
Ze Voïss is a French song contest
open to every students of the ESF
who will take place in a show on
the 20th of November. It aims at
promoting the French culture and
language in our school and at giving
the students the opportunity to
express their talent in another language
than English or German,
which are way too easy for you!
Ze Voïss is a French song contest
based on the currently broadcasted
tv show « The Voice ». Broadcasted
in 47 countries, it is known in Germany
under the name « The Voice
of Germany ». The « blind audition
» concept of the show is only
based on the appreciation of the
artistic performance of the students
and a guarantee of the jury’s
objectivity: no matter if you
are S1 or S7, a girl or a boy, white,
black or green, French, English,
German, Italian or from another
planet, no matter if you do not
learn or speak French (I am sure
many of you can sing English songs
without understanding a word of
it…), if you want to perform on
stage, Ze Voïss is for you ! Every
student from all sections have already
heard a French song. French
music reaches a wide international
audience. You may also find the
perfect French song for you!
Every student and every teacher,
whether they speak French or not,
and no matter their age, is welcome
(for those who need help, M.
Faglain is at their disposal).To limit
the show in terms of time, a maximum
of 10 songs will be accepted.
The number of participants is unlimited:
students are allowed to
subscribe as teams (with a maximum
of 4 students).
The jury will consist of: A music
teacher, a French teacher, a parent
and 2 students (if you are interested
in being part of the show
or jury, please contact Mr
Faglain !)
Until when can we subscribe?
You have until Friday, 25th of October,
to fill out an application
form (in the main entrance) and
put it in M. Faglain‘s office mailbox
(2nd floor, in the computer room).

Quest'anno il gruppo di
arte 4 periodi S6 è
partito per qualche
giorno in gita a Altenkirchen,
dove c'è un
Atelier nel quale si ha
la possibilità di dipingere
24 ore su 24. Il tema
di lavoro era il contrasto.
Abbiamo dunque
disegnato e dipinto
usando sia il contrasto
bianco/nero dunque
chiaro/scuro che
usando I contrasti complementari
dunque
giallo/viola, arancione/
blu e rosso/verde. La
prima sera siamo andati
a fare una passeggiata
nel parco vicino e
abbiamo osservato
attentamente la natura
e fatto foto. Inseguito,
basandoci sulle foto,
abbiamo disegnato su
formati piccoli usando
solo bianco e nero, con
l'aiuto della signora
Poppe e del signor Pezzella,
che commentavano
i lavori per aiutarci
a migliorare. La mattina
abbiamo osservato
le opere dei grandi
pittori per prendere
spunto ed imparare.
Dopo abbiamo solo
ancora dipinto dalla
mattina alla sera, lunedì
su formati medi e
martedì il dipinto finale
su formati grandi. La
sera c'è stata un esposizione
aperta a tutti gli
ospiti della casa con
tanto di sekt. È stata
una gita molto divertente
ed interessante,
siamo anche rimasti
più che soddisfatti dal
tempo, dal cibo e dalle
camere.

Alle reden von „Le Parkour“–
aber was ist das?
Wenn ihr diesen Artikel gelesen
habt, könnt ihr endlich mitreden
und es danach im Sportunterricht
oder für euch selbst ausprobieren.
Le Parkour – L’Art du Déplacement,
die Kunst der Fortbewegung
ist eine Mischung aus Sport
und Bewegungskunst, eine Kombination
aus Körperbeherrschung
und Geist, eine Verbindung von
Ästhetik, Balance, Dynamik, Effizienz
und Präzision. Traceure findet
ihr in nahezu allen größeren deutschen
Städten als informelle Gruppen
oder als Verbände. Parkour
hat sich in den Medien einen festen
Platz erobert, schaut es euch
an in Filmsequenzen, Musikvideos
oder Werbespots.
Die Szene hat sich in verschiedene
andere Bewegungsformen gesplittet,
wie z.B. Freerunning,
Streetclimbing, Yamakasi, Street
Jumping oder Move Artistics. Parcouring
ist übrigens die Wettkampfsportart
zu Le Parkour.
Die ursprüngliche Idee von Parkour
war aber, Hindernisse auf
einem Weg von A nach B mittels
der eigenen Fähigkeiten effizient
und flüssig zu überwinden. Dabei
treten (das freut die Sportlehrer)
Grundformen turnerischen und
leichtathletischen Sich-Bewegens
auf. Man übt dabei z. B.
(ausdauerndes) Laufen, Springen,
Klettern, Hängen, Kehren, Wenden,
Balancieren, Rollen, Kippen
und Stützen.
Was braucht man mehr, um fit zu
bleiben? Probiert es mal aus!

UK UNIVERSIT I E S TRIP
Choosing which universities to apply to is an
extremely tough decision, especially if you
have not had the chance to visit any of the
universities you are considering. It is also the
decision that the S7 students are currently
faced with, and something that S6 students
should be starting to think about.
In order to aid the decision making, a
group of S7 students, accompanied by Miss
Long and Mr Hegarty, went to visit eight of the
major universities in southern England in early
September. Despite the fact that we were
exhausted after arriving at Gatwick airport
shortly after 9am, we set off straight away and
arrived in Cambridge in time for lunch. Our
schedule was very busy, as every day involved
visiting two universities and many hours of
driving.
We visited eight universities in total: Cambridge,
Warwick, Birmingham, Bath, Royal
Holloway, Sussex, Imperial College London,
and University College London. Most of our
tour guides were student ambassadors who,
instead of providing us with the facts and statistics,
gave us their honest opinions of the
universities as well as an insight into student
life. We also learned the crucial differences

such as Imperial College London. Your preference
of either also contributes to your decision
of where to apply to because it is important
to make sure that the university’s
environment is suited to you. Our free time
was used to explore the nearby towns and
cities, which helped us decide whether or not
we could envision living in that area for the
duration of our chosen degrees.
Personally, I believe that this trip was an
excellent opportunity to find out more about
the universities we visited, as well as the student
lifestyle that the UK has to offer. Looking
at a university’s ranking on the league tables
and browsing its website only gives you a
vague idea of what it is actually like. On the
other hand, spending time on campus really
puts everything into perspective and helps you
decide whether or not the university is right for
you. I would highly recommend this trip to any
of the current S6 students that are thinking
about studying in the UK.

A typical head of human hair is strong enough to support a mass of 12000 kg (although you
shouldn’t test this at home!).
Atoms are tiny! How many do you imagine are in a little piece (12 grams) of carbon the size of a
small pencil sharpener? Well, if you could remove 1.4 million atoms from it every second and you
did this every second of every minute of every hour of every day it would take you just … 13.7 billion
years , the age of the universe, to remove all of them. So, er, they’re quite small.
The space shuttle orbits at an altitude of around 330 km and a speed of 30 000 km/h! Travelling
at that speed you could travel from Frankfurt to London in 90 seconds. Rather than being
weightless, as many people imagine, the astronauts still have 88% of their Earth weight. They seem
to be floating because they are falling constantly over the edge of the earth and the space shuttle is
falling with them at the same rate. Now imagine you were in a lift and the cable broke. You and the
lift accelerate downwards with you dangling in mid-air inside the lift – possibly screaming. This lasts
for 2 weeks. You’ve now accurately imagined space-flight. Still want to be an astronaut? Yeah, me
too.
Despite what you might have heard, water doesn’t swirl down the drain in a different direction in
the southern hemisphere; it’s actually equally likely in both directions everywhere on the planet.
