The impact of a forensic collaborative for older adults on criminal justice and victim outcomes:
A randomized-control, longitudinal design

An estimated 11% of older adults have experienced maltreatment, while financial
exploitation costs older adults $2.9 billion annually. Given the complexity of service
needs and legal issues in older adult cases, researchers and practitioners have
increasingly called for the development of multidisciplinary, forensic collaboratives to
respond to victims. To date, no tests of the impact of forensic collaboratives on victimand
criminal justice-focused outcomes exist. The primary goal of this proposal is to
conduct a rigorous, randomized-control evaluation of the impact of the Denver Forensic
Collaborative (DFC), a victim-focused, forensic multidisciplinary team, relative to usual
care (UC) on criminal justice as well as victim physical and mental health outcomes.
Expanding Use of the Social Reactions Questionnaire among Diverse Women

This project addresses the need to understand social reactions of different actors
following sexual assault, including reactions from social support system members (e.g.,

We will examine women’s reports of social reactions to sexual assault longitudinally,

youth. We will test an intervention that aims to reduce revictimization among homeless

manualized intervention for reducing homeless youths’ street victimization; to test the
feasibility of providing this intervention to a sample of homeless youth in Denver; and to

This primary goal of this R34 application was to develop and conduct an initial evaluation of
a modified cognitive-behavioral treatment (m-CBT) for depressed adolescents with histories
of interpersonal trauma. Treatment modifications are based on the hypothesis that standard
CBT does not address two factors central to depression in trauma-exposed youth: 1.) deficits
in executive function; and 2.) trauma-related cognitions. Because a history of interpersonal
trauma is prevalent among depressed adolescents in community clinics, this project used a
deployment-focused model of treatment development in order to create a “clinic-ready”

Assessment Specialist, Graduate Teaching Fellow, University of Oregon Counseling and Testing
Center (September 1999 – June 2001). Conducted attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
(ADHD) and learning disability (LD) assessments for university students. Responsible for
intakes, test administration, scoring, interpretation and report writing. Consulted within the
agency, as well as to the Office of Disability Services, to document disabilities and recommend
appropriate accommodations. Individual behavioral and cognitive-behavioral interventions with
clients diagnosed with ADHD.
Therapist, Lesbian and Bisexual Women’s Therapy Group, Center for Community Counseling,
Eugene, Oregon (January 2000 – May 2001). Developed and successfully secured grant funding
from an outside funding agency for a therapy group for low income lesbian and bisexual women.
Co-facilitator.
Intake Counselor, Center for Community Counseling, Eugene, Oregon (May 1999 – December
2000). Conducted intake assessments for low cost mental health agency.
Director of Education and Outreach, National Alliance for Abuse Awareness, Washington, D.C.
(June 1994-August 1996). Development and implementation of public education programs;
coordination of grassroots efforts on national level; oversight of press kit development and
distribution; press relations; research and writing on topics specific to child sexual abuse;
creation, production, and distribution of newsletter; oversight of national resource program,
providing referrals and outreach to trauma survivors, and mental health & legal professionals;
direct mail efforts; conference exhibits; coordination of amici curiae; Board of Directors
development; supervision of volunteers and interns.
