In 2013 four major sources of noise in our company (chimneys at Sinter plant South) are
quipped with noise silencers? The guaranteed efficiency of each silencer was proved which means
that the level of noise coming out of each chimney has been reduced by 15 dB. Besides significant
reduction in noise pollution at the immediate vicinity of Sinter plant south this measure also had an
impact on reduction in noise burden in the surrounding of ArcelorMittal Ostrava. Our company
plans to continue with reduction in noises coming from its operations through implementation of
anti-noise barriers at the existing assets. Regarding new assets their influence on the total noise
situation in the surrounding is being reviewed as part of the project preparation. Such solutions are
proposed so that the new devices do not raise the noise burden in the vicinity of our mill.
Over one million crowns paid for innovations
The number of innovations has risen as well as the total money spent on rewards our company
paid you for your proposals. Just for the innovative suggestions we paid you CZK 1, 162, 892 (by
12,5 % more than in 2012) and the highest reward for a single innovation amounted to 116 147
CZK.
The most innovative plant was Steel shop which surpassed Rolling mill (106 ideas) with 110
ideas. The support of Maintenance is not also indispensable (96 ideas). In 2014 we are preparing
new way of improvement. It will be called minor improvement and thanks to that you will be able
to get a reward up to “10 000 CZK.”
our company offers to primarily to technical university graduates. By attractive presentation which
was combined with frequent questions addressing students COO tried to motivate present
students to cooperate with ArcelorMittal Ostrava. He introduced them the paid internship
programme within which they can get hands-on experience and skills during their studies and
afterwards find a better job. Company’s representatives also spoke about a special programme for
graduates so called “Trainee pool”.

ArcelorMittal Gospel along with musical interpretation performed celebration of Jesus’
birth on Christmas Eve.

Visitors could see a counterpart of classic Christmas divine service but which was
drawing on the same values.
„It was fascinating for me to connect the world of traditional old Czech Three magi plays with
the rhythm of pulsing gospel. Our goal is not to separate these two elements from each other but
to point out to the fact that the faith is only one and it does not matter on which part of the globe
Jesus’ birth is celebrated,” said director of the performance Dagmar Hlubková.
250 viewers came to see this performance which was held at the multigenre center of Cooltour.

We are there where something is going on…
How to build a bridge out of skewers and threads so that it consumes as little material as
possible while maintaining maximum load capacity? Such was a task which students of technical
secondary schools tried to solve within the Bridge Builder Contest funded by our company.
The object of the competition was not only to make the technical programs more attractive but
to give secondary students a chance to put their practical skills at test. The contest was divided
into two categories. In A category students were building a bridge model at their school and
brought it to be displayed at Ostrava Technical University on the competition day. In category B
students build the model right on the University premises.
The contest was held on Dec 2, 2013 at Ostrava Technical University and more than 100
competitors out of eight different secondary schools of Moravian-Silesian region took part in it.
Steelmaking has a future, said COO Anoop Nair
Chief operating officer Anoop Nair from ArcelorMittal Ostrava came to present our
company and job opportunities to students of Ostrava Technical University.
The gaol of his presentation was to inform students about current situation of the global steel
sector and position of our company on domestic and foreign markets as well as job opportunities
