Foreword
The maintenance forms must be used in combination
with the VDL Bus & Coach maintenance manual for the
vehicle concerned.
Experienced mechanics
Whilst compiling the maintenance forms, it has been
assumed that the mechanic has the necessary experience
and has had the required education or training to be
able to carry out the maintenance work in a responsible
and safe manner.
Vehicle type
The information in the maintenance forms has been
updated until the time of printing and only concerns the
following series of vehicles:
- Citea CLF 120-255 PR ND E4/E5/EEV
- Citea CLF 120-310 PR ND E4/E5/EEV
- Citea SLF 120-255 PR ND E5/EEV
- Citea SLF 120-310 PR ND E5/EEV
In the maintenance forms, this series of vehicles is
referred to as: "Citea CLF/SLF PR - ND".
The letters PR indicate that the forms relate to the 9.2
litre PR engine of DAF PACCAR.
The letters ND are an abbreviation of:
- Normal Duty.
E4/E5/EEV indicates that the forms contain instructions
for engines which meet the requirements of the Euro 4,
Euro 5 and EEV emission standards.

1. SERVICE INTERVALS
1.1 PR – ND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
The service intervals stated in the service schedule are:
• Based on the oil specifications specified by VDL Bus &
Coach.
• Applicable to Western European driving conditions.

1.1.1 EXPLANATION OF THE SERVICE SCHEDULE
Service group classification
The use of the vehicle will determine whether it is classified
as being in service group I or II.

Standard changing interval
This is the symbol for the standard changing interval.
For the oil specifications, see the up-to-date VDL Bus &
Coach “Fluid and lubricant specifications” (DW050334xx).
Extended changing interval
This is the symbol for an extended changing interval.
If the specified oil specifications and any additional conditions
are met (see the up-to-date VDL Bus & Coach “Liquid
and lubricant” specifications (DW050334xx)), then the
changing interval may be extended.
T service
This is the symbol used to indicate a T service.
A T service is an intermediate service which consists of
changing the engine oil and some other maintenance tasks.

O service
This is the symbol to indicate an O service.
An O service is a distance-dependent service and must be
carried out during every 2 nd T service.
An O service consists of changing the oil and some other
maintenance tasks.
At least one O service must be carried out
every year.

1.1.2 SERVICE INTERVALS FOR DIFFICULT
CONDITIONS
The dealer or importer must be contacted if the vehicle is
used under very specific, difficult conditions. If necessary,
the service intervals and the maintenance work to be carried
out during the service must be changed.
1.1.3 INFLUENCE OF BIODIESEL FUELS ON THE
SERVICE INTERVALS
Biodiesel
> 7 - 100% The service intervals must be halved.
1.1.4 FIRST SERVICE
The first service should be held between 7,500 km and
10,000 km.
1.1.5 PERIODIC (LEGAL) INSPECTIONS
Periodic (legal) inspections, such as inspection of the tachograph,
the climate system and vehicle inspections, etc. are
not included in this maintenance manual, because the regulations
for such inspections differ for each country.
It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure
that the vehicle meets the regulations of
the country in which the vehicle is
registered.

Check the cold start and supple starting.

Inspect the low pressure and driving height safety devices.
Check the collision and acceleration safety devices (bus-stop brake + anti double-check relay valve).
Check whether the lights that indicate that the main switch and the contact switch are turned on work.

2.5 INTERMEDIATE SERVICE
An intermediate service is indicated in the maintenance work
by the "T service" symbol.
2.5.1 T SERVICE
The intermediate maintenance work is given in the table
below. Use a copy of this list for registration purposes to tick
the work that has been carried out.

O Check the adjustability of the steering column
O Check/top up the battery fluid.
O Check the immobilizer/non-repeat starting device.

O Check the steering mechanism’s bevel box for wear and leaks.
O Check all of the steering mechanism’s pivot points for wear and whether they are sealed.
O Check the swivel axle play
O Lubricate the swivel axles and the supporting arms if there is no central lubrication system (see comment
02).
O Lubricate the idler arms if there is no central lubrication.
BRAKE SYSTEM, AIR CIRCUIT
O Drain the condensation from the air reservoirs.
O Check the brake components and lines for leaks, wear and check their attachment
O Check the thickness of the brake lining/brake pads.
O Inspect the brake caliper’s automatic adjusting device.
O Check the brake discs for wear and check the thickness.
WHEEL MOUNTING
O Check the attachment of the shock absorbers and check them for leaks.
O Inspect the axle suspension’s pivot points (and those of the pneumatic suspension).
O Check the pneumatic suspension air bellows.
O Check the operation of the chassis’ pneumatic suspension.
DRIVE AND CHASSIS
O Check the rear axle for leaks.
O Check/top up the rear axle’s oil level.
O Change the rear axle oil + replace the bleed unit (see comment 01 and comment 03).
O Visually inspect the nuts of the driveline and the rear axle.
O Check the grease lubricated hubs for leaks.
O Check the tyres and rims for wear and damage
O Check the attachment of the wheels (retighten).
O Check the tyre pressure
GEARBOX
O Check the gearbox oil level and, if necessary, top it up.
O Change the automatic gearbox's oil and replace the oil filter (see comment 01 and comment 03).
BEFORE THE TEST DRIVE

2.6 DISTANCE-DEPENDENT SERVICE
Distance-dependent maintenance is indicated in the maintenance
work by the "O service" symbol.
2.6.1 O SERVICE
The distance-dependent maintenance work is given in the
table below. Use a copy of this table for registration purposes
to tick off the work that has been carried out.
For a distance-dependent service, both
the T service table and the O service table
must be used.

BODYWORK, ELECTRICAL UNIT
O Check the pedal rubbers for wear.
O Check/clean the battery connections and cables.
O Check the earth connections and the positive feed-throughs.
O Change the main fuses (see comment 05).
O Check the antichip coating and, if necessary, repair it.
O Replace the antichip coating every 3 years (see comment 01).
O Check the anticorrosion treatment and, if necessary, repair it.
O Replace the anticorrosion treatment every 3 years (see comment 01).
O Check the water heater.
- Check the electrical connections and the fuses.
- Check the bottom of the built-in box for dirt/grease, particularly at the emission gas outlet.
- Remove the incineration ashes from the inside of the combustion chamber.
- Replace the injector.
- Check the fuel pressure and, if necessary, adjust it (10 bar).
- Check the ignition electrode.
- Carry out a component test using the diagnosis equipment.
- Check the CO 2 emission and, if necessary, adjust the water heater.
- Check whether the water pumps work correctly and check them for leaks.
- Check whether the water taps work correctly and check them for leaks.
- Replace the parking heater pump and lines every 5 years.
- Replace the fuel filter.
O Check the operation of the R36 switch.
O Check the DTCO 1381/TSU 1391 every 2 years.
LUBRICATION SYSTEM
O Sump filling unit: check the lines and connections for damage and leaks.
FUEL SYSTEM
O Replace the filter element for the preliminary fuel filter/water separator.
O Replace the fuel fine filter.
O Clean the filter in the fuel tank (see comment 03).

O Check the antifreeze concentration in the cooling system.
O Change the coolant (see comment 01 and comment 06).
STEERING MECHANISM/FAN DRIVE
O Hydraulic steering mechanism/fan drive: replace the filter element (see comment 03).
O Hydraulic steering mechanism/fan drive: change the oil (see comment 03).
O Check the power steering and the limiting pressure.
BRAKE SYSTEM, AIR CIRCUIT
O Replace the air dryer filter element.
O Check the brake deceleration.
O Lubricate the brake caliper's guide sleeves and bushes. a
O Check the Haldex oil separator (see comment 07).
O Overhaul the (spring) brake cylinders (see comment 10).
WHEEL MOUNTING
O Check the attachment and the condition of the axle and the wheel suspension.
O Check the driving height (if necessary, use a height gauge).
DRIVE/CHASSIS
O Clean the gearbox bleed valve.
O Check the drive shafts, slip joints and universal joints for wear.
O Check the wheel bearing play.
O Change the grease of the grease lubricated hubs (see comment 09).
O Check the tyres and rims for wear and damage
O Check the attachment of the bodywork.
O Clean the underside of the chassis.
O Check the powder coating/paint coating/layer of zinc for damage.
