Lake Ontario 300
Solo Challenge
For diehard sailors, there is now a single handed version of the Lake Ontario
300 called the Lake Ontario 300 Solo Challenge. It is run in partnership
with the Great Lakes Single Handed Society, or GLSS.
The Great Lakes Singlehanded Society is an organization established for
the perpetuation of the sport of solo sailing. It is one of the few organizations
where no amount of money will purchase a membership, only by
successfully completing a Port Huron to Mackinac, Chicago to Mackinac, Sault
Ste. Marie to Duluth, the Lake Erie Solo Challenge, or the Lake Ontario 300
Solo Challenge (LO300SC), is lifetime membership conveyed by the Society.
For those who qualify, the Lake Ontario 300 Solo Challenge is the most challenging
single handed race held on Lake Ontario.
It is offered within the larger Lake Ontario 300 Yacht Race, but the rules are
somewhat different than those for the crewed classes. If you are interested in
competing, visit the GLSS web site at www.solosailor.org/lo300.php to download
the notice of race, entry form, and required equipment lists.
There are also a number of special requirements for non GLSS members that
want to complete.
Remember that the LOSHRS 100 mile race is a valid qualifier race for the
LO300SC, and in the LOSHRS portion of this Offshore Racing Guide, we include
information that will help you get prepared.
