magine you’re a little polar bear who’s just left the Arctic
and arrived in a place where grass and trees grow!
This is what happens to Claude, a little ball of fun and fur!
The three-year-old and his family have left their icy home
in Little Snowington for the bustling town of Bearhampton,
way on the other side of the world. Bearhampton is
quite a culture shock for Claude. To begin with, it’s strange
to be suddenly the only little polar bear in a town full of
brown bears and grizzly bears, koalas and pandas.
Things that most Bearhamptonites don’t even notice anymore
intrigue him: creatures and plants he’s never seen before,
cars and buses, and especially all the colors he had never
even dreamed existed! There’s something new to marvel at
every day. Butterflies that look neither like butter nor flies,
but like flying flowers ... sticky stuff called honey and that
tastes so good ... something called “dancing,” where it’s
OK to wave your arms around, kick your legs and make
funny motions ... and sports, where Claude introduces
tray tobogganing to the delight of all ...
In each episode, Claude tackles a new aspect of his surroundings.
He often talks directly to the camera and the audience
at home. He discovers that grass tickles and raindrops
slide off his fur... and that if you build an igloo in Bearhampton,
it’ll melt before you can move in! He’s particularly fascinated
by the things he never saw in Snowington, like roller
skates, pumpkins and TV sets. Even though he’s sometimes
bewildered by all the gadgets and the many new challenges
facing him, he always keeps forging ahead!
Based on the books by David Wojtowycz, “Fun with Claude”
is produced by distinguished U.K. animation firms Red &
Blue, headed by Marion Edwards, and Dot to Dot, managed
by Jo Killingley, in coproduction with Disney Channel U.K.
for ZDF and ZDF Enterprises. It celebrates differences and
encourages youngsters to consider their surroundings more
closely. Pre-schoolers will eagerly
join Claude as he discovers new
animals or objects, customs or
events!
