EMBASSY OF SWITZERLAND<br />

<strong>Student</strong> <strong>visa</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Switzerland</strong><br />

(stay of more than 3 months)<br />

An appointment by phone (1-900 222 340, THB 9/min) is required <strong>for</strong> all <strong>visa</strong> applications. The<br />

number can only be dialed within Thailand.<br />

To apply <strong>for</strong> a student <strong>visa</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Switzerland</strong>, the applicant (legal resident of Thailand, Cambodia,<br />

Myanmar or Laos) must submit the following documents in person:<br />

• Three <strong>visa</strong> application <strong>for</strong>ms, duly filled out, dated and signed by the applicant;<br />

• Three passport-sized pictures;<br />

• Passport, valid at least three months after the end of the planned stay in <strong>Switzerland</strong>;<br />

• Two photocopies of the passport;<br />

• Written attestation from the school/university that will be attended;<br />

• attestation about the payment of the school fees;<br />

• proof of financial means <strong>for</strong> the duration of the proposed stay in <strong>Switzerland</strong> (bank statement<br />

of applicant; bank statement of her/his parents together with a letter of sponsorship; bank<br />

statement and letter of guarantee by sponsors in <strong>Switzerland</strong> etc.);<br />

• diploma of already completed studies and CV<br />

• written commitment to leave <strong>Switzerland</strong> after the requested stay;<br />

• letter of motivation: this document must include 1) the reason <strong>for</strong> studying in <strong>Switzerland</strong> (the<br />

applicant should prove, that the proposed studies, i.e. languages, hotel, university etc., are<br />

necessary <strong>for</strong> further studies or employment in the country of residence) 2) the future plans of<br />

the applicant after the studies in <strong>Switzerland</strong>;<br />

• Applicants under the age of 18 must show their birth certificate and their application must be<br />

signed by both parents. A parental consent (done at Amphoe) is necessary <strong>for</strong> parents who<br />

do not travel with their child;<br />

All documents must be presented in original, accompanied by a photocopy.<br />

The Embassy will only accept files that are absolutely complete. The Embassy of <strong>Switzerland</strong> reserves<br />

the right to request other documents and/or in<strong>for</strong>mation, without justification or <strong>for</strong>ewarning. The latest<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation can be found on the website of the Embassy www.eda.admin.ch/bangkok<br />

Application <strong>for</strong> a Swiss <strong>visa</strong> costs CHF 55.00 (<strong>for</strong> the exact amount in THB / USD please refer to the<br />

separate price list on our website). The exact amount in THB <strong>for</strong> Thailand / USD <strong>for</strong> Laos,<br />

Myanmar and Cambodia must be paid when the file is handed in. This fee is not refunded in case the<br />

application is rejected. A shipping and handling fee of CHF 5.00 (separate price list) is also required.<br />

In Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, please contact the Consulate of <strong>Switzerland</strong> <strong>for</strong> the exact fee.<br />

Visas cannot be applied <strong>for</strong> by post.<br />

Procedure:<br />

The Embassy will assess the languages knowledge of the applicant<br />

The request <strong>for</strong> a student <strong>visa</strong> will then be submitted to the competent Swiss Authority <strong>for</strong> decision.<br />

The Aliens police of the respective Canton may request additional documents and in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Please be advised that the administrative process <strong>for</strong> the required authorisation to enter<br />

<strong>Switzerland</strong> may take up to three months.<br />

The applicant can call the Embassy (02 254 4596) after two months (not earlier) to ask if the<br />

application has been approved. No other in<strong>for</strong>mation will be given on the phone.<br />

Once the application has been approved, the passport can be brought to the Embassy.<br />

The <strong>visa</strong> can be picked up 48 hours (two working days) after the passport is handed in.<br />
