nity service, combined with artistic excellence, make the
Center a uniquely vibrant place!
If owning your own art appeals more to you, there are many
opportunities here for that, too. The North Dakota Museum
of Art has a museum shop that’s open year-round and also
hosts two art auctions during the year, featuring numerous
artists and styles. In the summer sun, the downtown area
along the Greenway becomes a shopping mecca for those
looking for art.
If history is what you’re looking for, in addition to East Grand
Forks’ Heritage Village, you can visit the Grand Forks
County Historical Society’s Myra Museum. It’s home to displays
about the history of the region and features a number
of historical buildings right on the property.
Literature
The literary scene in our region is expansive. For over
35 years, the UND Writer’s Conference has drawn over
300 famous writers. This annual event is one of the only
writer’s conferences in the nation that is free and open to
the public. During the five-day event there are readings,
panel discussions, lectures, films and a community writer’s
workshop. The North Dakota Quarterly is a literary journal
whose roots extend back to the early days of the University
of North Dakota. One of the famous “little magazines” that
have been the traditional seed beds of talented writers, it
puts UND on the map while contributing to the nation’s
cultural and artistic life.
Readings of fiction, non-fiction and poetry can be found in
bookstores, the North Dakota Museum of Art and at local
coffee shops. Children can also get in the act with story
time at libraries in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Our
public libraries strive to connect the community, enrich the
mind, and inspire the imagination. Visit the Library soon for
your information, technology, and entertainment needs!
Celebrate The Night
Each New Year’s Eve, Grand Forks and East Grand Forks
areas ring in the New Year at Celebrate the Night. It’s a
unique, entertaining and safe way to spend New Year’s Eve,
with entertainment and activities at the Alerus Center. Entertainment
options are available for the
entire family. For one admission price,
you can enjoy performances from
regional talent. There are fun activities
for the kids, and the evening closes
with a fireworks display.
