Bodø is the administrative centre
for Nordland county authority. It
is the northernmost town along
Kystriksveien.

KJERRINGØY OLD TRADING POST
Kjerringøy was one of the
wealthiest trading centres in
the county of Nordland in the
last century. Today it comprises
15 listed buildings with almost
intact interiors and a service
building with a café, multivision
show and tourist information
office. The service building
is an exact copy of an old
cowshed that was demolished
in 1892.

The tidal current,
which occurs every
six hours, is caused
by 400 million cubic
metres of water
flowing through
the 3 km long and
150 m wide strait
between Saltenfjorden
and Skjerstadfjorden at a
speed of up to 20 knots.You can
obtain tide tables at the tourist

shops. World famous for ocean
fishing and current diving.
Pollock, cod, halibut, wolf fish
are among the specialities. The
worlds largest pollock caught
using a rod weighed 22.7 kg and
was caught in Saltstraumen.
The area features walking paths
among beautiful recreational
nature including relics from the
Stone Age (9800 years ago) and
the Viking Age, a local museum,
historical centre and art gallery.
