At the outer edges of the Helgeland<br />

coast, 1.5 hours from the mainland<br />

via Express Catamaran, you’ll find<br />

the island society of Træna consisting<br />

of 418 islands. One of the smallest<br />

counties of Norway.<br />

Year round habitations at<br />

Husøy and Selvær. The Træna<br />

business life largely consists of<br />

fishing, fish preparation and<br />

fish breeding, as well as tourism<br />

and different services. Træna<br />

Lighthouse was built as early<br />

as in 1877. The islands have a<br />

rich bird life, and are very well<br />

suited for those who wish to<br />

experience nature first-hand.<br />

At the island Sanna, there are<br />

many caves dug out by the<br />

sea. The most famous one is<br />

Træna<br />

m wide, 45 m deep and 30 m<br />

high. The islands have been<br />

inhabited since the stone age,<br />

verifiable by several findings.<br />

In Langhågen, there has been<br />

found 31 house remains dating<br />

back to 2000 years B.C. At the<br />

island Sanna, one conducted<br />

archeological research in 1937-<br />

1939, finding things from older<br />

and newer stone age, iron age<br />

and the time around the black<br />

death. The Petter Dass Chapel,<br />

Træna Church (1773) and the<br />

Træna Village Museum are all<br />

worth a visit.<br />
