Highway Rv 769 out of Namsos
takes you to Fosnes municipality and
Salsnes on the mainland. Follow Rv
777 to Ølhammeren. You arrive on
the island of Jøa following a 5-min.
ferry ride. Express boat service from
Jøa to Namsos, Rørvik and Leka.
Jøa is known as the land of
Olav Duun. This landscape gave
inspiration to his writing. Olav
Duun’s childhood home is in
the municipal centre of Dun,
here you will also find a memorial
to the author. ”Siglurd”, a
traditional Norwegian sailing
vessel represents a further
development of the old Viking
ships. Siglurd and MS “Straumingen”,
a restored wooden fishing
vessel have their home port
at Brakstad Harbor, which also
has its own pub. Other attractions:
Fosnes Rural Museum,
The Peat House Museum at
Skjærvikskorsen, a Middle
Ages farm at Tranås, historical
monuments at Hovssjøen and
Fosnes.

is Norway’s second deepest lake
with a depth of 464 metres.
The Salsnes area offers a wide
choice of wilderness activities,
e.g., canoeing on Vassleia and
a heritage trail along the North
Sea and the Folla sea.

The island of Jøa has minimal
