u Committee Updates YOUNG PROFESSIONALS Navigator Navigator On August 29, Lisa and Shane Adams of Thrive Partnership presented “The Fascinating Power of Magnetic Marketing,” presented by Southwest Airlines, and sponsored by Gulf Coast Chiropractic & Rehab. Their presentation showed entrepreneurs how to attract floods of ideal clients, focusing on “Client Attraction” by using three simple steps: 1) Successfully sell at premium prices without being compared to the competition; 2) Create irresistible offers that magnetically attract past and new customers; and 3) Stop wasting money on advertising by eliminating the trial & error. On September 26, Dr. Randy Blass will present “Thinking Deeply About Leadership, Part II.” His presentation asks the question, “Have you ever wondered what it means to lead?” Leadership is a subject that requires deep thinking, he says, because it determines success or failure in every human endeavor. Whether in the locker room or the board room, on the field or in the office, leaders constantly influence behavior. Charting the Entrepreneurial Course for Business Small Education Partnership As the beginning of a new school year approaches, the Chamber’s Education Partnership Com-mittee has launched a “Million PENcil Project” to collect and distribute more writing instruments to the teachers of our local elementary and middle schools. During the month of September, we will continue to collect pens and pencils at Chamber events and at the Chamber office. We are grateful for the many local businesses and community leaders who have already stepped up and donated supplies for this program. The Committee is also partnering with Innovations Federal Credit Union to bring MAD CITY MONEY, a handson simulation that teaches students the importance of financial budgeting. Arnold High School’s freshmen taking a computer business course will be the first students to participate in this two-hour program, and we will be reaching out to the business community to gather 30 to 40 volunteers to play the role of merchants. HYPE Mary Beth Lovingood, HYPE’s 2012 Chairperson, is Director of Development at Florida State University Panama City, and began working at the campus in November 2011. Mary Beth is responsible for directing the fundraising efforts for the campus, working directly with donors to create student scholarships, establish endowed funds to support academic programs or make an annual gift to support the campus. Mary Beth came to Panama City from Tallahassee, where she worked at the FSU Foundation, Inc. for three years as Director of Special Events. Before, she worked as Public Relations Account Manager at The Zimmerman Agency, representing hotels and resorts throughout the Caribbean. Born and raised in Sylvester, Georgia, Mary Beth graduated from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations. Mary Beth enjoys the benefits of being a member of the Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce, and hopes that other young professionals will consider becoming a member of HYPE. HYPE is a new approach for young professionals (21 to 40) in Bay and surrounding counties to network and grow professionally through monthly socials, luncheons and tours.
