TO MEET YOUR NEEDS
For the past 20 years, Chrudim-based TMT has been a leading Czech maker of conveyors and conveyor systems.
Romana Moares spoke to Mr Jiri Vitek, the company business manager, about past and current challenges and what
distinguishes the business from its competitors.
TMT produces and supplies transport, handling and conveyor technology suitable
for the transportation of loose and lump materials to most industry sectors,
particularly construction, automotive and food processing. Its broad customer
base across many sectors is a clear advantage for the company.
Other strengths include experienced design and construction teams, modern
and efficient hardware and software equipment. “We provide the design, construction,
production, assembly and service of conveyor systems including supplies of
control systems and supporting steel structures, mostly as turnkey solutions to
suit any customer needs,” says Mr Vitek. He explains that the company does not
supply a product as such, but mostly unique, finely tuned system solutions. Those
include not just the conveyors but also steel structures, control systems and other
elements. They may be horizontal, vertical or diagonal, big or small, on the floor
or under the ceiling – as is most convenient for the client. “Our systems can also
reflect each company’s national or international standards and internal directives,”
adds Mr Vitek.
Twenty-two years of growth
The company was established in 1991. In the first years it focused on the design and construction
of machines and equipment for the transport of loose and bulky materials. “We
started with about 12 people and gradually expanded our activities, scope of business as
well as our staff numbers. Business growth until 2008 was steady and continuous,” says
Mr Vitek.
In 2000 the company moved all its functions and activities into a single operational
site in Chrudim, which had been purchased earlier as a brownfield development project.
Reconstruction and modernisation was completed seven years later but the efforts and
“Although our company F System is relavely young we have lengthy experience with industrial automaon especially, with modular conveyor systems, robocs and with the design
and manufacture of custom made roboc grippers.” says company founder Dipl. Ing. Jiri Flieger. He also adds that “Modular conveyor systems with standard components allow us
to quickly create sophiscated and custom made soluons at aracve prices. Therefore, in the field of modular conveyor systems we closely cooperate with the Austrian company
E-M-M-A GmbH, OEM producer of components used in modular chain conveyors, which we also exclusively represent in the Czech and Slovak Republic.
The main advantage of the modular conveyor system is its flexibility and efficiency. With the Modular conveyor system E-M-M-A, unlike convenonal conveyor systems, it is extendable,
customizable and its standard components are re-usable aer alteraons of the line layout. The challenge for modular conveyor system is the ability to install them in confined spaces.
“For us it is definitely the building blocks for adults, which compliments our offers for industrial automaon and robocs,” Dipl. Ing. Jiri Flieger concludes.
involvement were recognised even earlier – in 2005 the company won a prestigious
Brownfield of the Year Award. Today TMT, employing 188 people, can boast some truly
hi-tech premises.
“Following major investment in technologies, the production area is very well
equipped today and capacity is reasonably used. We do not plan to increase capacity at
the moment but rather focus on process rationalisation and efficiency and productivity
improvement,” says the business manager.
Complete solutions
The current product portfolio includes technological transport units, equipment for inprocess
transportation of lump, loose and bulk materials, supporting and steel structures
and other handling devices.
The transportation systems, including belt, link, worm and chain conveyors, bucket
elevators, roller lines etc., are often supplied to the end customer along with control
systems, steel structures and assembly operations.
T M T spol. s r.o. Chrudim has been certified to meet the EN ISO 9001:2008 standard
and also holds the Great Welding License needed to make steel structures in accordance
with EN 1090-1. The last successful certificate audit, performed by the certification
authority No. 3016, i.e. the Czech Ship and Industrial Register, was acquired in May 2012.
Together with this certificate ‘The Great Certificate of Competencies’ has been successfully
audited and updated and it enables the company to make steel structures in accordance
with EN 1090-1.
Looking ahead
“About 60 per cent of our output is sold to the domestic market although not necessarily
to Czech companies,” says the business manager. “The rest is delivered to international
markets, which we divide into the EU and the third world. We have always exported via
third parties, as a result of references in the Czech Republic. Many clients have asked us to
install our system in their operational units abroad,” he explains.
He further emphasises that instead of extensive investment or potential acquisitions,
the company will focus on increasing efficiency and process improvement, as well as
maintaining a high calibre of staff. This is not always easy as many technical schools have
been closed down. “It is imperative to maintain the right level of staff and we try our
best. Human potential is more important than renovated buildings for future success,” he
says. He explains that the company will also strive to maintain its wide customer base to
remain solidly rooted in the market and not stumble should one sector (such as construction)
experience decline.
“As long as we manage to secure the continuity of skills and expertise, I am optimistic
as far as the future of our company is concerned,” he concluded.
